If you are in a real hurry, boil an egg or two the previous night. Peel and eat with salt/pepper the next day morning.

Or make a simple trail mix for a quick on the go breakfast. Make sure there is a bit of everything in it. almonds + wheat flakes + raisins + sunflower/flax seeds + gems (yeah, gems. a bit of chocolate is good :P).

I've just taken to eating a Bagel every morning.

300 calories - 1 bagel on rest days

400 calories - 1 bagel + cream cheese on workout days

They stock Bagels at work, so no time issues for me. Eat breakfast at 9:00 after getting to work.:P

Me likey.. imaginary reps.. since not possible here. :P

i would imagine that it's not a good idea to have stuff like maggi everyday for breakfast. there's nothing wrong with having it once in a while, but it's nutritional value is little to none. like others have said, try and keep fruits and cereals in your breakfast... especially fruits, as i've found that eating fruits (at least in my case) is a very rare thing unless it's made it into a habit. and of course, life being as it is, we're always pressed for time in the morning but i would suggest that you consider spending a little more time on breakfast than just a the few minutes that we normally manage. it's a very important meal and in the long term, it's probably a good idea to eat right anyway ;)

this is not much advice on recipes you can try. just vague rambling. sorry about that ;)

Look, breakfast is your first meal of the day. Your body has been starving for about 8 hours, maybe more. It doesnt matter too much because you are sleeping and are relatively inactive. However, if you dont have a good breakfast, your body will go into starvation mode. You will not feel hungry but many essential functions will be at reduced capacity. A geeky analogy is that your body will underclock itself instead of running at stock speeds.

Also, if you dont have a good breakfast, you will end up gorging during lunch time and this isnt good.

The correct fuel for your body during the morning is a good combination of Carbohydrates and protiens. The Carbs are like a fuel for the body. If you intake carbs, then the body starts burning them as you begin your day. It's very good for oyur body. The protiens are mainly for your muscle growth and protiens take much longer to get digested which means you will fuller for longer with a relatively smaller quantity.

So, egg whites with bread is a good option. Another good option is a cheese + brown brad + peanut butter toast.

If you are of normal weight, then you will need about 2500 calories a day. Try to allocate about 300-400 calories for breakfast. It sounds a lot, but you need it. Your body needs to make up for the 8 hours of fasting. Now, this doesnt mean you eat a big bag of chips which equals 400 calories. You need quality calories. This is in the form of carbs which brun slowly giving your body energy over a period of time. Stuff like brown bread(whole wheat bread), almonds, peanuts, etc... but be sure you dont overdo the dry fruits. They are fattening in themselves. A small amount is essential, but too much and you will just end up taking in extra fat.

Also, try to avoid multi grain bread. It usually has a relatively higher number of refined grains which isnt the best thing for oyu. It's better to get only whole wheat stuff.

Oatmeal is another good breakfast food. Try to avoid granola. It isnt as good as Oats. Cereals are good, but not as much as oatmeal.

If you can add a small amount of chicken/fish to your breakfast, it would be a good source of protien. You should make a note of all the good combos for breakfast and then keep switching them around so you can maintain your diet for a long time instead of getting bored quickly. Try a few low-fat sandwich spreads. However, many low-fat stuff is just low in fat, but they are loaded with calories. Make sure you read the nutrition label before purchasing it.

^^+1 ...totally agree!!

Breakfast is the MOST important meal of the day! And should be the heaviest !

heh, we & the Brits would agree with that, but try telling the Yanks & the french and they would disagree. I came to the conclusion so long as you got the calories at regular intervals it did not matter which meal was heaviest. Conditioning plays a big role here. We are used to having a heavy breakfast, so its natural to expect it to be that way.

What's the story witht the refined grains ? whole wheat is better than maida and so on.

I hear this all the time but if you get enough fibre from other sources does it really matter ?

If you look at the calories on a multi-grain bread its actually much higher than plain. I don't see those as empty calories.

Proteins are good for repairing damaged tissue which is what muscle growth is.

But you can get a similar effect (not to do with muscle growth but not feeling hungry) if you eat slower to digest carbs. Chapatis (thick & dry) or kerala (red) rice vs sliced bread & white rice. Now chappatis nothing can beat but its not easy to do yourself.
