What is an Octroi charge ????

People living in Maharashtra will know octroi. I regularly get stuff using DTDC and other couriers and when they call me for the octroi part I always tell them that they will have to give me a receipt or a xerox of the receipt without which they will not get any octroi money from me. I am adamant at this point. If they tell me that they paid an "wholesale" octroi I ask them to give me a xerox and then only I pay the amount. Lotsa times the courier guys go back on their words and don't take any octroi money from me

In my case the courier guys dtdc/Bluedart/trackon etc always came with the original octroi receipt, so no option to say NO.
