Just had an arguement with my frnds over this.Excluding the upgradability,flexebility,appearance/looks etc. of the PC based setup and concidering only the audio quality and performanche which is better?

(Assume budget of 30k)

1.some good soundcard(don't much know about soundcards) + speakers(z5550 etc.)
(OR)
2.Sony/Onkyo etc. Hi-Fi

What say?

Am not very sure, but I think the PC setup would be better.

and the latest soundcards X-fi are better than the Audigys..... So, you can go with that and a good set of speakers.... If it is only music, then you are better of with the MX 5021. If you want surround then go for the S750 set from Creative. This will go to slightly more than 30K though.

I have on my system an Audigy2 and Altec 621 speakers and on my second computer I have a Creative Live 5.1 with an external Pioneer AMP and KEF BBC Monitor bookself speakers (each box consisits of a 6" woofer and a dome tweeter) - believe me - NO CONTEST - the Pioneer + KEF combo kick the sh*t out of the Audigy + Altec.

I bought the Pionner AMP about 10 years back for 3k at Lamington Road and got the 20 year old KEF speakers for FREE from a friend.
