Hi guys .

I have a Biostar T Series Motherboard , C2D 5500 proccy, 2 GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM, Corsair 450 watts PSU , 2 X 500 GB WD HDDs + 1 X 250 GB seagate HDD. 22 inch AOC LCD.
My cabinet is CM 3??? (not sure) , recently got a 4850 super sonic edition with 512 DDR3.

My problem is that my PC shuts down after a time period of 20 to 40 mins without any warning ! (No Signal message on LCD) and the shutdown time becomes smaller and smaller if i restart the PC.

I thought it would be the GPU as it might require more power so used my old 6600GT instead but the problem still persists. ( this problem started 2 days after I installed my new GPU )

I tried using memtest86 boot cd but PC shut down before it could complete. The PC ran without any problems on the BIOS menu for nearly 1 hour.

My culprit list includes MOBO , RAM ( sheru's suggestion) or PSU.

How do u guys recommend getting the damn thing sorted ?

PS - I cant watch Reaper , Heroes on my laptop anymore.

As pratik said, could be temp issue. Try speedfan or EVEREST.

Is there a BSOD? If yes press F8 before windows logo and select "Disable restart on system failure".

go to ur bios and chk the system temps settings...thr is a setting to turnoff the pc if the cpu temps cross a limit...increase that limit or disable the turnoff feature....

Here are the screen caps from Everest.
Can Chassis intrusion cause this ?

Just before the PC shut down I was able to see the CPU temp upto 80C the GPU temps were still between 50 & 60.

Could it be the new CPU fan I put in some 2 months ago ???

Yes please follow this steps..

But in BIOS only if CPU temps goes above 60-70 it will shutdown the system..You can turn ir off but if CPU temps are going 60-70 than it seems to be a big problem.

Please post your CPU and GPU temps

:D

Thanks Pratik , I have posted those screen caps from Everest.

And just when my PC shut down the CPU temp was shooting up to 82C.

I had put a very cheap 400 Rs generic cpu cooler fan just 2 months back. (feel foolish now for getting something very important without considering the after effects)

I guess that might be causing the problem , cause the GPU temps seem OK below 60C. I was playing 2 videos in windows & flac in winamp while testing.

happened to me once, i applied thermal paste and re seated the processor and voila! temperature issue was resolved and no more crashes :) .

i dont think there is a issue with your gpu as it happened when you tried another gpu

Remove Heatsink and Processor and than apply thermal paste and than insert the processor and heatsink properly..

It happened to me as well.I applied Thermal paste and now its working fine.

Also remove the Rams and clean it

I hope that should solve your problem

:D

i guess you havent applied thermal paste before applying the heatsink......if not do it asap...

I will try that , just ordered CM thermal paste from Lammy should be here by night or tomorrow.

Till then I am not starting my PC.

Will try that and give feedback.

Thanks guys for the suggestions.

i did not notice any cooling fan sensor for cpu in the everest screen shots...

n as OP mentioned...he has put a generic fan costing 400 (worth 100 bucks)

adviced to change the cooler asap...

get atleast stock hsf from market section or settle for a better cooler.

Also ur GPU fan seems to be slow...tweak the speeds from Catalyst Overdrive section.

n do not disable 'thermal protection' (i.e. 'turn off incase of particular temp in bios) if u wanna c ur chip survive till u get a new cooler..

@Madnav

what is the recommended fan speed for GPU ?
I am going to play crysis on this.

on my 4850 with the stock cooler i had pumped up the fan speed to 60% without any problem.

since you have a sonic edition i don't think you need to increase your fan speed.

what is the gpu temp on load?

as already suggested by other fix ur cooling problem...wht i suggested was a temporary solution to keep ur pc on...but on a long term basis do tht at ur own risk...
