Hi guys,

I was wondering. What keeps the spirit (the life, motivation to post, the excitement with every "New Posts" search) of a forum alive. Do vote here. I want to know your opinion also.

For me, its the original articles, guides, reviews which the members come up with followed closely (very closely) by the behavior of the mods (to newcomers most-importantly.)

So, what you guys think?

Regards,

Karan

Sadly Groupism.....
here is an example of commonly seen behaviour ...
------------------------------------------------------
A few kids having similar tastes and IQ levels and similar upbringing form a group and decide to promote their "skills" (Non-Existing). They generally have a "hidden" agenda.
First they start with spamming and making big pompous postings, which is generally "read" from another site or a mere copy / paste operation. this is so that the young , juvenile members are "impressed".
Then they start taking liberties with the forum rules and challenge the staff. one amongst this group is encouraged to take on the staff by the leader of this group, who btw acts like a pacifist...you know like jesus christ reincarnated.....
well, then that member who was "fighting" the staff gets banned for a few days. but then herein lies the best part ....
during the course of this operation the group has spread its tentacles deep into the staff structure. they befriend some of them (staff) by pseudo - "praising" or commercially benefitting them. Then they start urging these "friends" in the staff to unban the banned member
in short they create a rift or difference of opinion amongst the staff. (and generally they succeed in acheiving their objective)
Eventually what happens is that the banned member is "unbanned" much before the banned period. Forum Rules, which they themselves have made, are thrown in the trash can ....
Having tasted "success" they continue their operations in their attempts to ruin a forum .....
---------------------END ----------------------------------------

During all this the young and gullible members (who are always in the majority) have a "good" time by spamming / flaming etc .. and the "spirit" of forum site is maintained.

ps: this forces the staff members, who were very docile and "complacent", to get worried since the adsense revenue suddenly plunges due to all this spamming / flaming and general degradation of the quality of posts . hence they attempt to curb the spamming and encourage the members to make and post useless articles / reviews under the garb of "original" / "authentic".
They also suddenly start introducing OTM contests etc ...
This also keeps the "spirit" of the forums alive ...

So you see dear members it is not quality of postings or behaviour of mods which keep the forums alive it is the small battles and duels that take place daily which does.

The example i have given above is fairly common and i have seen this cycle in many forum sites. eventually this leads to ruining of a good forum site but that is a different issue ....i would not like to go into details about that aspect ....now i continue my spamming ways ....

you sir are evidently the best judge of it....

edit: almost forgot. DJ, are you giving subtle reference to aditya getting banned, me talking to mods about him, Me doing:

First they start with spamming and making big pompous postings, which is generally "read" from another site or a mere copy / paste operation

then me being "you know like jesus christ reincarnated....."

then this "Eventually what happens is that the banned member is "unbanned" much before the banned period." happening?

since i am so successful:

Having tasted "success" they continue their operations in their attempts to ruin a forum .....

would you like to tell me "while not being sadly satarical" how you do your part to keep the spirit of forum alive?

ofcourse if u not referring to me, Oops, sorry :D

cuz sir this part of ur post:

ps: this forces the staff members, who were very docile and "complacent", to get worried since the adsense revenue suddenly plunges due to all this spamming / flaming and general degradation of the quality of posts . hence they attempt to curb the spamming and encourage the members to make and post useless articles / reviews under the garb of "original" / "authentic".

hmmm.....reminds me of ol' days at TA when one staff member created rifts between others....

The jokers section keeps up the ..err "spirit of the forum".

I also heard that you were pretty interested in knowing why goldenfrag was unbanned.
[sarcasm]
Well I got a 9800pro for unbanning GF and a X1900XT for unbanning Virus. I sold that 1900XT to XTerminator for half the price.
[/sarcasm]

I hope this answers the following quote too. Well TE is a democracy isnt it, these things do happen in a democracy.
- "praising" or commercially benefitting them.

Also I must take a moment to congratulate on the commendable job done to fabricate a perfectly well connected story by our detective. I still remember an old incident where a similar thing had happened when we had to shift servers a lot. And guess what, the same sniffer was used that time too.

So you see dear members it is not quality of postings or behaviour of mods which keep the forums alive it is the small battles and duels that take place daily which does.
So be it.
