Hi,
I just wanted get the dust off my HSF and I found the OEM Thermal paste wasn't very good , so I decided on buying a new Thermal Paste. So,what Thermal Paste do you use ? I'm thinking Arctic Silver 5, good enough ? Any other recommendations. Thanks.

Is it very necessary to clean the previous Thermal paste with Iso-propyl alcohol? I just cleaned the old paste off with a dry cloth .

And which method is best ? Put a drop and spread or Put 2 lines of paste along the CPU?

It might be available in the local market for 150. Otherwise you could buy this for a little higher cost online from theitwares

A dry cloth will not get rid of all the impurities and left over paste. In fact, some thread might get stuck on the die and result in an improper bonding of the surface with TX2/AS5. Go to the chemist and get a small bottle of rubbing alcohol. It costs only about 20 rupees. Use a small piece of clean cotton to rub the alcohol around the surface of the die. After that, just put a tiny amount of TX2/AS5 (About the size of a rice grain) and spread it around using the edge of a credit card. That method works best and results in a thin even layer on the surface. You don't want to drown the CPU in thermal paste nor leave any gaps on the surface.

Last time I used Artic Silver on Q6600.

May find this as a joke, but used 'Nepali Heat sink paste' available @25/- a small bottle [from shops in Andheri (E)] on heatsink of a P3 system for my friend. It was working cool.... :)

They say alcohol based solution will clean off all the paste of the HSF and Processor , considering that I'm thinking of using aftershave :S

Or how about my left over LCD screen cleaning solution?

isp alcohol is pretty cheap and is available at medical stores...u dont need to buy a made in taiwan solution......if u cant get one use ur saliva....

TX2 works great for me as well. However, a point to note, all these Arctic Silver 5, MX2, Tuniq are more or less the same. Not much of a difference between each other but ya lot of difference from the local ones. :)

Clean it with Iso-propyl alcohol, its cheap @ Rs. 35 approx.

Sounds insane but can we mix Arctic Silver 5 and tuniq and make some super duper Thermal paste :ashamed:

im most cases mixing two pasts will end up bad, as it tends to lose many of its desired properties if not fully.

ive used AS5 and TX2. TX2 seems lil better [around 1.5c cooler].
