What's the difference in different classes of SD Cards

Hi friends !

So I ordered 2 Panasonic FZ-28 today from eBay (one for me, another for my cousin). Now I'm looking for 4 / 8 GB of SD / SDHC cards, however, constantly coming through different choices in classes of these cards.

Take below as an example. Sandisk offers 4 different classes of cards, starting from Class 2 to Class 6 or more.

Now my question. What are these speeds? Read or write speed and are they going to make decisive difference in how I take pics from my FZ-28 ?
 
diff is the read/write speed and data integrity nothing else the higher the class higher read/write speed

If you compare a Class 1 and a Class 6 card, there will probably some difference while taking pics if you click your shots in higher resolutions. The modern day digicams take pics which could be upto 4MB in size, so a better SD card could help you shave off some time while writing the pic to the card.
 
Don't go in for standard SD card, I have it in my Digi cam & it takes eternity to capture images!
Im also on the look out for some superior options.
Found 4gb SDHC class 6 for ~500/-
& SDHC extreme for ~ 1100/-
 
^ thanks, where did you get the quote of Rs 500 for Class 6 SDHC card ?

A dealer on TE gave me quote of Rs 565 [shipped]
