you are missing alot of cruelty, i saw sometime ago having age of 6month more/less and also 1year. can't remember the post but there were multiple incident in this age. we need double cruel punishment but india hai ye.

This is the same Local Community who gossips, humiliate and mentally Harras the Family who's son or Daughter ran away and/or Married to Another Caste/ Religion , these are same people who are also get shocked when the family takes extreme steps like this to make the Society believe they are ashamed and Not okay with the acts of their Daughter/Son.
In scenarios like this Behind the doors Parents only pray that whoever Their Daughter ran off with is a good Guy and a caretaker. Parents are less worried about inter caste/religion marriage and more worried about Society kya kahegi aur kese Muh Chupaye inse.
Things will probably be worse before they start to improve, but hey, maybe we are being a little bit too negative here. It is possible to argue that there are forces (economic / technology/strategic) at play beyond the politicians that we see. One can hope that as the system moves towards worse times, our citizen will be shaken awake and will start to pursue better ideals than identity.
As a culture, we might have our flaws that are deep, but in practice, people generally do have appreciation for knowledge - as even the low-income earners are trying to educate their kids. Humans also have the tendency to learn from the pain that debacles cause. That is reason to be hopeful that even if we get to a post AI dystopian world, we will probably find a path to a better destiny, even though it probably won't ever be perfect.
