When is HD Dish TV Expected ?

Hello,

I dont like the quality of neither the Tatasky or DishTV ...I dont know how they define it as DVD quality picture... why doesn't someone go into consumer court and take 'em down ...

When can we expect something like FOX HD ..or HD channels coming up ?

Cant we see Ramayana HD version ?

Though I heard reliance going to come with HDMI ?

When ..when .. when ?

No specific road maps yet. The adoption rate of hdtv's here is low.

With Saawariya and Om shanti om set to release on bluray soon, I hope it opens the gates to the HD Era in India. If not HD channels atlease we may see popular epics and serials in bluray.

Cannot expect companies to go HD here for a small percentage...

I beg to differ have you ever thought that your TV may suck thats why the quality ain't good. I have a 29inch TV and TATAsky looks brilliant.

Yep. Considering that "DVD quality" means either 480p (720x480-NTSC) or PAL standard of 720x576 resolution, on a pure resolution basis TataSky looks exactly like a DVD disc on screen.

This, I'm talking on a standard CRT which has a max of VGA or SVGA resolution. So it looks darn good on a 29" CRT in fact as H2O's pointed out. Especially on the newer 29" CRTs with their own denoising and anti-aliasing algorithms.

On the other hand, TataSky paired with an LCDTV of 32"+ doesn't look as awesome as the CRTs. :) That's where you'd really like HD. Of course, this is again dependent on your viewing distance and craving for high-res video. :D

IF you wanna watch movies,tv shows you can always get them from torrents and use it with your LCD and enjoy HD.

Lol..I dont wanna download always...although I have 2 mbps unlimited.

Like I watch Prison Break, Lost, Heroes 720p x264...thats what I'm talking about...y cant we have serials movies in that type of quality dude...

and some here are saying 'my tv sucks' .. what a great reason...you surely work for dish tv or tata sky.. !

@ ragz,

Dude What resolution? A TV no matter what big is going to have the same resoulution, u just cant compare A TV with HD. A HD needs LCD (bare min.)

H2O might be mistaken, yes. But there are two cases in which TataSky won't look all that good and both are contrasting situations.

1. The said TV is an average 15-21" TV. Here the clarity et al will be pretty much useless.

2. The TV is a high-quality FullHD LCD TV. In this case, you're stretching a 480p signal to 1080p. That's 6 times the resolution stretching! This is what coolraghav is talking about.

TataSky currently is best suited to the typical 29" or even 26" LCD TV. Eitherways it's head & shoulders over the neighbourhood cablewallah.

I know all of us know this. :) But it never hurts to state the obvious for the very few who might now. :D

Dude, I want HD too! I have watched Heroes in HD, Planet Earth in FullHD, and a bunch of new blockbusters in HD and am totally addicted! The only point that I was trying to say was that the Tata/Dish guys aren't exactly lying wen they say DVD-quality ;)

Yeah, its really sad, TATA Sky looks pretty bad on my TV (Not so bad cause the inbuilt Hitachi upscaler is great!) but nevertheless when my mates in the UK send pics of that United - Arsenal game, 1080p, SkyHD :(

well 1-2 initial replies almost convinced me to buy CRT :D lmao

^^Anish...thats what I want...when is what m asking in this topic :) ..its too yummy !

and I dont think 480p stretches to 1080p on my TV..i think the TV adjust itself on the basis of stream coming from behind..if that was the thing then it surely shud have got blurred..

its viewable ..but not HD ..

If you are using fit to screen option on the lcd for full screen viewing on tatasky, its stretching / interpolating the signal. The no of pixels on LCD screen cant change afterall.

Different TV engines work differently here and give different end results.

The top of the line Sony, Hitachi, Pany give very decent results but at 1080P native resolution, you cant expect it to be too good.

upto 32inch, the interpolation results are very good on my Bravia. Its better than most 1CD 700MB DVD rips infact.

The first one to bring the HD in india would probably be reliance / bharti or BSNL through IPTV.

Dish wont be starting by 2010 mostly. The company with whom they have tied up for infrastructure recently had a launch failure of their satellite. This may delay their other projects.
