When will India get true 2mbps UL? Vote!

By the time we get 2mbps connection, it would be meaningless as the world would have moved onto 20 mpbs connections and higher....and 2 mbps wouldnt mean a thing. Let me give an example to make things clear:

Check your facts please. The world has already moved beyond 20mbps. An ISP in UK gives 24mbps Unlimited for 25 pounds.

Figure that out.

The games of PS3 and Xbox 2 would require 20 gb or more with Hi-Def/Blue Ray format. The streaming video content on UTube and other sites would have been hi-def and we wouldnt have enough bandwidth to stream the content. We will be faster than what we are today, but still relatively slower than what the demand of bandwidth would be for applications at that time.

Excellent point. By the time we reach 2mbps, Hi-def streaming would make 2mbps feel like 256kbps on youtube.

The only fix to the problem :

Leave India OR Major ISP management overhaul to a totally new body. NEw IT ministed, new TRAI for Broadband management, a government that knows its people want Broadband.

Look at China, they started their broadband exactly when India started its broadband, now, they have unlimited plans in mbps, and all isp's are government.

And its then I wonder would India have been better if it had been a commie like China, maybe the government in here would've tried harder then.

@params7...

i have to disagree wit u on that 1 point... abt if india had ben a commie like china...

from 1950-90 india was waiting to develop... and in the last 15 years of privatization see the development...

who was the first to give dsl.. airtel/touchtel not BSNL infact it was DISHNET.. private isp.. not bsnl... at that time bsnl dumba**** were on dialup ... and to compete wit DSL they launched a unlimited dialup package... ya rite... to catch up wit a DSL u launch a dialup product and expect it to be a success..... the whole point in it was to make money..

dialup ul was flat fee daily but additional telephone cost... so either way income na...

still its the same... i think that privatization has done good to india ... just that it was too little and too late...

we can only hope for much more from private sector cause of the competition

and the need to establish a brand name.. like in the case of airtel... or reliance...

thought they still lack in many ways... but think of this... from day 1 till date... airtel has good knowledgeable cc. and capable technicians or engineers and bla bla... unlike bsnl ... bsnl u could say is developing... and when they reach airtel`s standard today... one of them is going to go ahead and the other must catch up...

its like the HARE AND THE TORTOISE...

techcheat By 2010 world would move into 100mbps line but i sure be have 2-4mbps line for sure

I know that peeps already have 20 mpbs. But 20 mpbs is not the avg of the developed world... There are countries like Japan with even 100 mps or more.... but the point was to get the gist of the post, and not debate whether its 20mpbs or 25...

Exactly... even though we want high speed broadband its the electricity we need first to sustain that bandwidth... Most of the cities in India do not have even 24 hr. power.... few cities like mine does 'coz its the capital of a state.... I guess even Delhi & Mumbai have more power cuts than some citites...........:@ :@

As many users pointed out when we will get 2MBps world would be @ 20MBps downloading Hi-Def's pretty fast.... i also believe so.. Further to add the future is Hi-Def.... & I think with H264 implementation & HD-DivX we would be spending same time as we do now to download a 700MB DivX for above compressed formats... So even though we will get 2MBps in coming years I don't think it will help us any more 'coz time spent to download would be, more or less the same...

About china.... yes state controlled ISP's have ushered broadband pretty fast but you know how restrictive chinese govt. is.... They block out any content they deem unfit for its people but in India we don't have any monitoring by the govt. 'coz they don't know for shit...

The development in broadband era is ushered by private companies & they will come up with such plans..... Also I think it will take some pure play broadband player who's primary product would be a broadband connection, will give us an UL 2MBps connection... may be at some high price initially but it will force existing players to come up with such plans..... :bleh: :bleh:

So future is bright for Indian Broadband Industry & we will see bandwidth going up & not down.....:ohyeah: :ohyeah: :ohyeah:

Thats why i voted for 'Never' cos even if we get 2mbps , people will still be comparing with foreign and they would complain "now we want 4mbps"

well it depends, we can all complain, but at least 2MBps came faster than we expected, and the IT minister is the best we've had for some time now AND there is loads of money in technology so maybe , *maybe* we will catch up with the rest of the world some day. That is if ISPs from abroad come here...which could happen i think :)

Thats what human nature is all about alos want more.

Ofcourse, when we're at the bottom most in the scale, where can we go but up?

And where do you get this 'Future is bright for BB in India' BS? So far, its been absolutely dull and pathetic, the speed at which we are going upwards is as good as not moving up at all. I can bet in 2-4 yrs, Youtube will upgrade to its hi-def version (they have already, you can get a higher quality video by clicking the larger screen option, also Google Video takes much more speed to stream than youtube), and we don't even have enough bandswidth to stream regular youtube. Broadband in India is a gimmick, nothing else, along with the telecom sector. The world is moving on to direct hiquality video conferencing and 4g and we don't even have enough EDGE yet, forget 3g.

No need to check facts and get into nitty gritties of 20 or 25 mbps...techcheat has summed it up well. I can vouch for this kind of shitty restrictive behaviour of our indian govt. About some years ago, I remember the shell accounts that VSNL would give students for cheap with no graphics(only text) while the rest of the world enjoyed browsing in Internet Explorer. Ever tried downloading on 14K dialup???...redefines the word patience :bleh:.

And yes...Japan is light years ahead of even the developed world...esp in the mobile space.

me too agree entirely wid param....enough is enough , i mean when r a we going to catch up wid the world in terms of BB

2mbps UNLIMITED under only 1k is asking for too much. ISPs already cry if we download huge amounts on a 256k connection.

5-10 years i say

i don't know about you guys...but i'm pretty excited with MTNL's initiative of giving us 2mbps at nite for 590/month (as part of their "256 kbps" plans ;) )....isn't that worth appreciating?
