I am from Bangalore, recently i got an NTSC-J ps2 (not modded) it will be really great if someone could answer the following queries :

1) Where in Bangalore can i buy NTSC-J dics (original, as the unit is not modded) ?

2) Will an NTSC disc from from other region e.g NTSC-U etc work on a NTSC-J unit ?

3) Whats the minimum charge for getting the unit modded and where in Bangalore can i get it done, i know for a fact SP road does it but any specific shop , or ph no etc ... ?

1) The grey market, National Market. Thats your best bet not sure if they will actually have it. For online orders you can give Play-asia a shot, but you need a credit card for it.

2) Not as far as i know. But any asian region discs will work. I.E HK / SG so on, but never tried so im not too sure.

3) Google it, you dont actually need to hardmod it to play OOR Discs. The process is fairly long and complicated. And i have not tried so im not sure. As for shops in SP Road, im not too sure, but i know National Market is the place where they will do this sorta stuff.

Update :

Just wanted to keep the rest of you peeps who might be looking for the similar information in B'lore:

I was not able to find NTSC-J ver discs in National Marker, all in all if you are looking for original discs ,don't ever go there and waste ur time :p

I tried to get the unit modded, folks over there quoted between 1300 to 1700 for modding the unit which i know is insane moreover i was asked to leave the unit with them in the morning and collect it in the evening which i was not comfortable with. They refused to let me see the unit getting modded as well although its done in some adjoining place.

Anyways it didn't sound reassuring to me as i am aware that these guys are known to swap the components. One of chaps even chided saying " you can keep it the way it is and be happy" i replied with a thanks :D. All in all just avoid National Market it kinda lost its old charm..

Anyways i got a lead to get the unit modded from Indranagar, will try tht.

Tks anyway for your responses.

Modding doesn't cost a lot. It's usually 500 bucks. That's what I was informed by my retailer when I got my pre-modded PS2 from him. I think you're only option might be using a Swap Magic disc to play the PAL games. Not a 100% sure about it's working procedure though.
