As the rains have now reached the city, I expect the view to be better during trips.

I'm planning to somewhere this weekend, 1 day trip only, so I need some advise on that.

It will be group with a few girls, who might not be into sitting on the beach and doing nothing, and other such activities, but that is more like a secondary criteria.

Please suggest some places where I could drive to.

TIA

You can go to Mulshi..just 40 kms from pune and there are quite a few lake side resorts...or if you want to go a bit further then Tapola would be perfect...it is about 200 kms from pune.

1. Lonavala / Khandala on Bike

2. Sihngad Trekking

3. Mulshi / Panshet Dams

4. Bhimashankar if you can go far (140 Kms one way)

Lavasa is the closest from pune approx - 60-70kms, nice place to spend a day. there are a number of water sports too in lavasa.

also the drive to lavasa from the ghats is also pleasant.. esp for bikers nice curves :P

Just go to khopoli on mumbai-pune highway, maybe approx 8 to 10km from khandala, you will find lots of biggy waterfalls, huge mountains, Zenith waterfall is the famous and is really amazing, Gagangiri maharaj temple is also worth visiting. Then you can proceed for khandala-lonavala,on the way you should see tiger valley, monkey point (dont forget to eat hot maize (makah)with lemon and masala on it, and get one for monkeys also, coz if you dont they will snatch it from you, choice is yours ;)),rajmaji point (waterfall). Spend some time enjoying Kumar resort where you can do rain dance, games, etc. Eat chocolate fudge (delicious) (coopers fudge recommended). According to me that will be enough for a day trip.

wait for more 10 days, let it rain heavily, so that those waterfalls get in full flow, and the lonavala-khopoli (bor ghat) stretch is all covered with mist and clouds..Thats the ultimate time to visit those places.

I have been to malshej ghat by a hired car. You can find some State transport buses from thane-kalyan-malshej-pune route. You can ask nearby bus travel agency if any bus go via malshej ghat. No idea about any hotels. Our trip was via malshej to pune so didnt stay there.

@chiragsthakur
you seem to be quiet a tourer.
Good to have one among us geeks.
Or your just watch bhatkanti
milind gunaji show:P

:).... i used to stay in khopoli for 18 years..I have my flat in khopoli....born in khopoli.... now in mumbai from past 5 years.... Moreover a maharashtrian, so I know all those places very well and I like to keep visiting different places on my bike... ;)... Yeah man bhatkanti is also a very good guide, but I visit those places personally rather than milind gunaji doing it for me... ;)

^^ one day trip to mahabaleshwar and paanchgani ??? They wont be able to see or experience all the greatness of those places in one day for sure... if planning a stay for 2 days or more then its really worth it..

Sorry for being MIA, I've been to khandala, lonavla, panchgani, nandgaon, lavasa, khapoli already.

Any other places?

I'll be taking my car to wherever I go...

I would suggest Kundalika river near Kolad village.. you will find water activities (river rafting/snorkeling/kayaking), camping, greenery and fabulous NH17 - ultimate highway for sheer driving pleasure..

This is on mid-way of Mumbai-Pune, just around 3 hrs drive from Mumbai and 2 Hrs from Pune. Excellent place for a day or two trip..

If you are interested in camping and water sports, here is a good resort - Adventure Resorts, School Camps & Camping Near Mumbai | Resorts Near Karjat, Mahabaleshwar Panchgani, Lonavala & Pune | Corporate Team Building & Conferences in India - Nature Trails

^they are beaches. I do not think going to a beach should be fun than going to a hill station during the monsoons.
