maybe the coolermaster would not be good enuf for the upcoming G92 series but it does a very good job in giving clean power to your components for 8600GTS and below computers. It can even handle a 8800GTS but that wud be like stretching it a bit.

BTW, my other query in still unanswered: Is it possible to play properly at lower resolutions on a LCD?

As some1 said it depends on the games you play, but i was able to play Oblivion, Company of heroes(without dx10 patch), need for speed carbon @ 1440x900 with high settings with no problems at all. But i had overclocked it to quite high levels(to tell u the truth i was able to play these games even without oc, i just gained a few FPS by OCing), i even posted my 3d mark 06 scores which were simply superb. Cant remember the link tho. At its current price level its an amazing card, i bought mine for Rs. 8200 while its now available for Rs. 6200. And u r paying even less coz of ur friend so dont think twice as in any case its just a stop gap solution for you.

Ya, it's just a temporary solution for me :) @Darky, i don't wanna buy 8800 GTS as of now... will buy the 9800 series card later.

And i am getting the MSI instead of EVGA bcoz of the following benefits i already mentioned:

1) Awesome price ($109 on newegg, $10 mail in rebate)

2) Factory OC, so good performance

3) Runs cooler...

^^If u want silence, get the heatpipe one. Temps will be higher and you likely wouldnt be able to overclock as much as the one with active cooling

I have no problems with fan sounds... so i'll go with the fan based one.

BTW, my friend has already ordered the card.

Total cost: $124 = $109.99 + $7 shipping + $7 tax

He'll try to get the $10 mail-in-rebate.

I'll get the card in October though :(

Thanks for ur suggestions in this thread guys :)

I have to go for a Nvidia card (for Linux). Hey guyz, will my 400W (17A on 12V) be sufficient for 8600GT?

The Linux drivers for ATI cards are really improving..and a few leaked benchmarks also show its improved... By September end, we'll have excellent drivers for HD2xxx cards for ATI!!

Anyways, if u've already made the choice, then its fine, but then ATI is definately more value for money at the 2600
