Which ADSL2+ Modem/Router to get for BSNL DataOne?

Hello,

OK! Finally I got the call from BSNL today that they have activated BSNL DataOne Broadband on my Telephone line.

I got calls twice from two different persons. Both asked me whether, I will get getting Modem from BSNL or will I be buying the same.

I informed them that I was waiting for the connection to be active and I'll be buying the modem now in a day or two.

The First guy said, he'll be coming in 1-2 days. The second guy said as I'll be buying the modem myself, there is no need for anyone to come from BSNL's side and settings I can get by calling him on his telephone.

Enough with my story
The real question is which ADSL2+ Modem/Router Combo to get? My basic requirement is the following:

1. ADSL2+ Modem/Router Combo
2. 4 port switch
3. Wifi b/g would be welcome

I don't need the USB connection option. I've been very busy lately and I'm not able to do my research. Hence, I request you guys to suggest me model and if you know the price as well.

I am currently using a Netgear RP614v2 Router with my TATA BB Connection.

Any suggestions would be welcome. But, please don't ask me to search the forum. I've already done that.

P.S.: The netgear is just a 4 Port Router/Switch and not a modem. The TATA Connection in my home comes through Ethernet which insert into the WAN RJ-45 Port of the Netgear. I mentioned Netgear just to signify that I'm only familiar with Netgears.

U can go for this combination......

Any specific reason why you say Buffalo are better choice?

I had tried WZR-G300N for a few days but, I didn't like it's Wireless Range coverage?

I was leaning towards Netgear DG834G which my dealer has quoted at Rs. 3250/-

BTW, I want a all in one and don't want a combination.
 
I'm using a D-Link 502T with my Linksys WRT600N, so I'd suggest you get a 502T and add that to your exiting Netgear router.

the cheapest way out. No point buying a 802.11g router, the Draft N 2.0 devices are gonna get finalised in a few months and then 802.11n will go official.

You mean I should just get an ADSL Modem and use my existing router?

Yeah, same suggestion from my Side.

as you have a Acess point, so why buy something which you already have.

Get what you don't have. a ADSL Modem/Router

Instead get ADSL Modem/Router.

I have one spare, its used lightly and is still under warranty.

Alternatively, You can also take modem from BSNL.

Thanks for pushing me. :ohyeah: I've dropped the new All in One Combo out of my mind :)

I think I'll get the D-Link 502 and use my existing Netgear RP614v2 Router

Can you just have a look at the specifications and tell me if I am missing something IMPORTANT?

It doesn't have Wireless and it was never a priority for me so I don't mind having no wireless ATM :)

Just have a look at the Netgear link above and let me have your thoughts.

I've been using this router for many years and it is rock solid till date :D

I'll buy a brand new one :D

When I asked for an All-in-One Combo you suggested a plain vanilla modem.

Anyways, thanks. I'll be most probably getting that as you can see.

BTW, I see in you sig that you have the Netgear 614 and D-Link 502T - is your Netgear Router RP614 and have you configured it with the DSL ADSL Modem?

If yes, any pros and cons?
 
No need to bother linuxtechie.

I hooked my Netgear RP614v2 to D-Link GLB-502T of my fiancée and it worked like a charm.

The only hitch is that you can't see the the ADSL Status like SNR and Connection Speed and other stuff. :(

Rest everything was great. I'll order my 502 tomorrow.
 
well ,I got a UTSTARCOM300R2U modem on lease.will be buying a modem.it is almost 3? years now on lease with bsnl :P
 
OK. I got my 502T as well. It's working as a charm ATM.

Will be shifting the phone line to my Bedroom today and will be cutting off all parallel connections so as to get a clean line :)

I hope that is enough?

BTW, are parallel connections ok with the ADSL Line or what?
