which BD-rom to buy ? good store to buy/rent BD Movies?

i am looking for a BD rom to buy to play BD movie discs on my PC (config mentioned below).

I have come across 3 options that are sweet on the purse:

http://www.theitdepot.com/details-LITE-ON++4X+SATA+Blu-ray+ROM+Drive+OEM+Black+(HOS104)_C8P7298.html ( Is not supported in Win7 )

http://www.lynx-india.com/index.php?productID=2153 ( just 2X BD-rom read speed- is that an issue?? What abt the consumer BD players?whats their read speed? )

http://www.theitdepot.com/details-SilverStone+Optical+Disc+Drive+(TOB+02)_C8P5633.html ( can i install a slim type drive in a mid-size tower? )

The rest of the drives seem to cross 10k ;at which i can buy the new Sony BD Player !

Also, with the hardware that i have; will there be any problem with BD playback- stutter etc?

ATM, i am able to play BD-rips very nicely on my PC using Core AVC Codec & Win Media Centre in Win7.

Bru you need to get a more up to date low end graphic card for the decoding of HD content for your PC coz I'm not so sure that your processor can pull of this one.

so gfx card will be ATI HD 5450 ~ 4K or

Nvidia GT 210 ~ 4K

Both are optional, and for the Blu Ray drive thing only Sony and LG make these things for pC's and I'm not up to date with their price listings so you can roam on the net and find out

Sony cost ~ 14K ( max )

I cannot comment on the issue about Read Speed limited to 2 x as I have a DVD reader which reads only upto 4 x and still things pan out fine ( stutter free )

as for the Slim type installation I'm not sure again.

I don't know any movie rental service that has Blu Ray movie stocked so no luck there either bru :(

Hope it was of help :)

I bought a Liteon 4x BD-ROM drive (actually 2, one for me, one for my dad) from Global Easy Buy. One cost 4500 bucks and another cost 3600 bucks (after GEB discount). Both are working fine!

For buying Blu Rays, Amazon US and Amazon UK are the best places.

Is BD expected to become mainstream in the near future? Wasn't it fast in case of DVD?
No bru adoptation of Blu Ray has been slower than expected and in INDIA almost Dismal as the added hardware setup is enough to burn a hole in your pocket

Yes, it does burn a hole in your pocket indeed :)
I have already got about 22K worth of Blu Ray discs, but believe me when I say - they are totally WORTH it!

Sad to see that the adoptation is kinda slow though :(

Yeah they are cent per cent worth every penny but only on the right hardware

Well, the cost of the hardware becomes insignificant compared to the discs.

If you already have a PC with an HDCP capable monitor and a DVI and HDMI port, then Blu Ray hardware is cheap.

I paid Rs. 3.6K for my blu ray drive. That's pretty cheap!

LOL blu-ray rips are so ossum I wonder how the actual blu-ray would look like on a huge display! :D

Need to buy one at least for the demo's sake. :p

I can most definitely tell the difference between an actual Blu Ray and a Blu Ray 1080p rip - even when the rip is encoded at high bit rates. And, the sound is pretty mind blowing too. For e.g. Casino Royale has uncompressed LPCM audio which sounds just amazing.
