^ okay and incase you do tell them that you are sending a mobile phone, they will charge you something like 1k or 2k just for the insurance, right??

Does such scanning take place with speedpost also?
Insurance is 2% of the declared value. I always declare the correct value and get it fully insured. I can get a costly phone shipped by DTDC plus with insurance for 500-600 Rs. Problem is not all offices of DTDC accept mobiles. You have to try DTDC branch offices. I'm not vouching for DTDC service but I never faced a problem with DTDC.
Overnite is good too. Cheap yet reliable and fast. Don't have any idea about Speedpost. I never sent costly items by Speedpost. But small things that I've sent they never asked about the content !!
i used dtdc plus service to ship a mob to hyd from trichy. it took oly 36hrs. i was charged 110rs for a 450gm parcel

Minimum charge for DTDC metro Plus was Rs 150 for weight upto 500gm. For DTDC Plus (non-metro, even like cities like Bangalore, Gurgaon) is Rs. 195 and for DTDC Blue is Rs 185 for weight upto 500 gm. Rates have increased recently, so don't know exact rates.

Is speedpost safe? Will they deliver the shipment as it is, non tampering etc?
Okay now here is what I recommend you, if you want safety and are ready to spend then go for DTDC or Bludart, speedpost is good if you want cheap work. But yeah, I have never been disappointed by them. I always use speedpost. I sent an archos video player worth 3.5K and it reached as safe as anything.

Did you tell the courier guy that you were sending a mobile phone?
i dint tell him.. i asked him to undervalue the item as 300 bucks

Have you told them that it's mobile inside?

If yes, why there is differential treatment for same courier?
Agree that they are different franchisees, but there are policies which have to be followed by every franchisee.

i know my franchisee courier guy from a long time. so he wil give me tips to send my parcels. wil offer me cheap too

I have recently sent a Phone from Delhi to Thane which is not a metro city with DTDC Plus and it costed me 195 bucks but i had to fill the form for the content inside and it's value. So i marked it as a used phone and gave a value of 3k but mind you DTDC Plus took over 3 days to ship it to thane which i don't really care if the item reached in one peice :P

overnite mobile express if you want with insurance.. otherwise bluedart... Now a days i use only bluedart and declare value as 5000, pay 300 as shipping charge and next day hassle free delivery :) If the area is not covered by bluedart, then i go with overnite!

I personally, don't like the idea of declaring the value of the product and that is why I trust speedpost, I have not heard many people's stuff being stolen by speedpost staff and if I am not wrong then I don't think that 'random checks of items at the airport' happens for speedpost.

I use Bluedart but they don't let u declare value more than 7-8k but I have never faced a problem with them. Have shipped iPads, iPhones etc and all reached safely.

SpeedPost should be fine. I have sent many parcels through them (even high values items like 18k) - no issues.
There is also an addon available called POD (Proof of Delivery) which costs extra ~11.00. (It is a card on which the receiver will sign and it would be sent back to you)

The problem will speedpost is the time taken - Sometimes it takes just 1 day and sometimes it takes 14 days!
They have a limit how much they can sent through Air. Once that limit is reached, all other remaining parcels are sent by railways. Once it is sent by rails, the next tracking happens after 3 days!

The advantage is the price - no one can beat them here.
And the pricing is fair.

With couriers like DTDC, the price I see on the website is not what is charged by the franchisees. They charge whatever they like. So, its a no for me.

I dont think any courier has perfect track record. I have heard of even Bluedart parcels tampered/stolen. But still BlueDart is No 1 in India. If price is not an issue, go for them

Touche, I completely agree mate, speedpost is nominal but DTDC don't go by the rate chart of their website.

Sent a mobile recently from Bangalore to Vadodara. Cost me 310 bucks. Sent it through Bluedart. Shipped on Saturday at 3. Reached vadodara on Monday at 2. Very satisfied with the experience although i had to undervalue the phone to 5k and sign a declaration form stating that i would be eligible only for a refund of 5k in case of theft or damage.

Here's a strange thing. I went to the DTDC apex office in Rajajinagar. The office manager there told me that they have had quite a few complaints with mobiles going missing. He suggested i ship it when there are no holidays in between as most of the theft happens when the item is stored in the warehouse overnight.

Does speedpost having an insurance option? What will be the approx cost for insuring, is it the same 2%?
What will be the total cost, is it Rs 90 for over 2k KM + insurance?

^ thanks

I was looking at FedEx and it had on option of "Freight on Value - Carrier's risk/Owner's risk" below the option of "Total invoice value".
So if I choose Carrier's risk, is that Insurance? Because they have not actually used the word "Insurance" but yes if I choose Owner's risk then the shipping rate is almost 50% less. Also, it doesn't have a * i.e mandatory to fill in the option.
