Hi All,

I will be going to India next month or so. I got two 23KG bags(checked) and 1 laptop(cabin) bag. ~13 KGS
Need to catch a flight from Bangalore to Trivandrum. Which Domestic flights allow this much baggage?

I haven't flown domestic with this much luggage. :(

I just checked Air India website and say they allow 23KG 2 bags for economy plus. But when i checked through makemytrip only 15KG. Which one is correct?

AFAIK, Indigo, Jet & Air India have recently reduced the baggage allowance to only 15 kgs per passenger. People travelling business class are allowed more baggage, I think. It is pathetic that the baggage allowance is so less. Even more ridiculous is the fact that the extra baggage is charged at Rs.250 per kg... :(
IINW, as of now, only Spicejet allows 20 kg baggage.

BTW, what you mentioned about 2 bags of 23 kgs in Air India is only for international flights.

Also the cabin baggage should not exceed certain dimensions, and I think the weight is limited to 8 kgs or so. But I am not sure if anyone actually weighs the cabin baggage.

Show your boarding pass and passport to show you are travelling from outside. Most of them have a policy to allow you the baggage as per your international limits. Call and verify in advance.

Spice jet allows 20 Kgs(checked) and 7Kgs(Cabin) now. Just came in a Spice Jet flight today and for the first time.
Rest allow only 15 Kgs(checked).
But for everything else, i would prefer IndiGO over Spicejet.
 
Just a headsup - my friend flew from Bombay to Cochin on a Spicejet craft last Sunday with some 35+ kg luggage. He had resigned from the company and was leaving permanently with all the luggage. Spicejet charged him some 200 Rs per kg of extra luggage and he had to shell out 3570 Rs. odd for the extra stuff.

That isn't the best part. The flight was delayed by some 4 hours and they did not even give him any consideration.
 
AFAIK if you book a flight directly for Trivandrum from your departure point then you would be allowed baggage as per your international flight limit even on the domestic leg of the journey as its on the same PNR/ticket. If you book 2 separate flights, one for the international leg and one for the domestic leg of your journey, then the domestic baggage rules would apply and you would most certainly have to pay for extra baggage.

I know that :).

But alas my tickets till B'lore is done by company. I am thinking of changing it to Trivandrum. But I already have a ticket too.. So. :(
 
If thats the case then be prepared to pay extra baggage charges. No Domestic airline can match the North America baggage allowance. The best you could do is compare which airline charges less for it and then go with that one. Or you can try and prenegotiate but I doubt that'll work.
 
Can't you get you boarding pass punched with a passenger who has only a single cabin baggage, just tell that you guys work for the same company at different locations.
 
^^Never EVER do that. You don't know what the other guy is carrying in his luggage and if its checked in your name, god help you if it turns out to be something illegal.

on a serious note:

pay for extra luggage in advance and travel. i do that all the time. you can book upto 30 kilos ( 15 extra) by paying a fee. obviously its cheaper than pay per kilo. the fee is waived if you are a frequentflyer senior ( read gold/platinum) member, which i am sure you are not else this question wouldn't have come up in the first place.

Going with Air India. 15Kgs Luggage. and 7Kg hand luggage

My brother will come to Blore Airport to pickup my other luggage.

Definitely used to work till last year. Never know with the ch***s now. I've used it on Go and Indigo. Your domestic flight should be within 24 Hours or so of your international arrival.
 
So next monday morning is my flight.

I maybe 3 or 4 Kgs above the allowed limit of 15gk for my check-in. How will i pay the difference? Is it done online or at the counter?
 
^^ talk to them nicely at the counter and they'll let you thru without charging extra for a few KGs.

Difference needs to be paid at the check-in counter. For international flights you can buy "extra luggage" online at cheaper rates. I doubt anything like that exists for pathetic countries like India.

FYI, if you are flying Air India, you can register for their Frequent Flyer program (Flying Returns). This automatically gives you an extra 10Kgs of baggage allowance.
