hi all,

i need to rip some dvd movies for my new 320 gb hdd :ohyeah: i tried a few freeware dvd ripper, well they did the job but the video quality was nowhere near dvd. so i need a ripper which can rip movies while maintaining the original video quality. if its fast and not resource hungry then its icing on the cake. please also suggest the settings that needs to be followed for getting near-dvd quality i.e. width x height dimensions and bitrate. thanx :)

What format do u rip to??
Rip to mkv with h264..u'l maintain much higher quality at almost half size..
try media coder..

You can decrypt the DVDs using ripit4me.

Create an index of the vob files using DGIndex.

Load the index file in MeGUI and set the output settings like codec, container etc etc. I would recommend x264 as video, mkv as container.

All the softwares are freewares

@painkiller: just yesterday i used dvd decryptor to copy files from my dvd (in IFO mode) to HDD, then used the free AutoGK software (which is a user-friendly frontend for a bunch of tools) to convert to single CD 700mb AVI file in xVid format. You can specify 2 CDs and other sizes also. this on windows of course.

on linux you can try installing the "dvdrip" package which again is a UI frontend to a bunch of tools which will rip for you, but it didnt work for me.

I use Intervideo DVD Copy 5 Platinum most of the times. The sole reason being that in future if you want to burn the movies on DVD's back it HAS an option to split a DVD9 disc into TWO DVD5 discs which in effect maintains the same quality as the original.

AFAIK, no other DVD Copy software has this feature.

My Other favourite is CloneDVD2 from Slysoft

i tried most of the above mentioned software yesterday night but the ripped video files are huge. infact bitripper created close to 40gb file :( i need something that creates 700-800mb file while maintaining optimal video quality.

dvd decryptor is creating many video files instead of one single file...any idea?

What exactly are you trying to do?

If you rip a full DVD9 Disc to your HDD it shouldn't exceed 9 GB of HDD space?

If you want to RIP them to 700-800 MB Files you need to convert them to DivX or Xvid to maintain optimal video quality.

If you want to do it without hassles, I'd still suggest Intervideo DVD Copy.

You can convert DVD to DivX with it. You just have to select the target size (IMO) and settings are adjusted.

I won't be able to tell you the settings as of now as I've recently loaded Vista Business and haven't installed IV DVDCopy yet.

god bless u stalker.....this is exactly what i was looking for
it convert my dvd to xvid with good video quality and just 714mb :cool2:
some small issues that i like to point out:
1) it doesnt rip copy protected dvds
2) divx option is disabled. thats probably because i dont have divx codecs installed on my rig.
3) it creates around 8 gb of intermediates files per dvd :(
4) takes a bit of time to rip...first it creates a video file, then it creates a WAV file. then it creates a mp3 file and lastly it merges everything together.

but on a whole a gr8 software...here are ur rep points :D

EDIT: forum says that "You must spread some reputation around before giving it to stalker again". so u have to wait a bit.

As far as I remember - IV DVD Copy does this much faster.

Why don't you try the trial of it?
