I have a Liteon 60XX (some no) but it is converting all my DVD-R into coasters. I have done the firmware flash but still it has not solved the problem.:( I need to buy a new one. Please let me know which is a good brand and preferably model no with its price.
Also which media should I use for DVD-R. I generally use Moser Baer because of its easy availability. Any suggestions in this regard? I have heard that verbatim dvd media is good but i am not able to get it from my area. May be I will get it from Lamington Road.

are samsung optical drives reliable ? Because earlier their CD-ROMS had that tray issue and all that

no its nothing lyk that... buy it with ur eyez closed..

Tray issues, are said to be sorted out.. I have that Samsung drive unused though...

For media use Taiya Yuden media, or Verbatim if you want a more economical soln...

Tray issues are history, Samsung resolved that some models ago but the reputation persists. The 203B has been getting rave reviews for a long time now, its still cdfreaks.com choice I think. The 203 series are good.

whats the cost of 203 in Mumbai (Lamington Road) all inclusive?

And any other place near to Borivali where i can get it at similar price.

Today i had a talk with one Aplus computers in Goregaon, Mumbai and they said that the 203 model of samsung is discontinued and it is replaced with a new 22x speed model. He quoted the price at Rs. 1150. Can anyone please confirm this ?

Aren't SATA DVD drives supposed to have problems with RAID setups and AHCI configurations? This is the reason I am sticking with IDE dvd writer for now, despite the whole cables issue.

IDE Drives are more than enough..

There ain't any 'performance' differences between SATA & IDE drives.

The newer SAMSUNG drives are good performers(speed & reliability)..

Then there's the LG ( reliable but slow read speeds)

nope no probs for me

using it on ahci mode

I dont have much knowledge on these SATA and IDE interfaces. My machine is approximately 4 years old. In this i am using 2yr old Liteon DVD writer which is dying. So do i actually need something different for the SATA interface. How do i identify whether the drive (or for that matter a HDD) is having a SATA interface ? Will this new samsung dvd writer work perfectly in my machine ?
