Dear Friends,

My father is a patient of Diabetes.

He takes insulin.

But, sometime his sugar level drops even below the range which is even worse.

I am willing to buy a digital Glucose meter.

Can you please suggest me which one (brand, model) to get ?

I heard that some of them are cheap but not accurate, sometime the device is cheap but the strips are very expensive (just like printer vs. printer-ink).

It will be a great help.

Thank you.

you can go for onetouch ultra model, and we have been using it for my dad for almost 6 years and no issues.

One thing to keep in mind is the cost of Glucose strips...the reader might be cheap, but strips can cost a bit.

one touch is quite accurate. but u should not rely on glucometers alone. get ur dad tested every one months once atleast. the blood glucose measurment is more accurate than any glucometer. and further the dose of insulin needs to be titrated so as not to cause adverse effects..

^^+100 to that. You can use any glucometer(we use those Bayer ones in the hospital I work). But try to get his FBS or PPBS checked once in couple of months. If that is not possible, atleast do one HbA1c every 4 months,it is a good indicator of glycemic control over a period of 4 months(Lifespan of RBC=120 days)

If your dad is having frequent hypoglycemia, you should consult your doctor asap.
