lol never fall for sm3.0 and 4.0 crap ! First generation cards will always be slower to allow playing of games with all eye candy on for a certain technology e.g. hdr/sm3.0 and hdr. sm 3.0 was introduced with nv 6/x8xx(hdr) series and is however still not implemented in enough games and we have sm4.0 coming soon. Imo sm4.0 games will take some time to come out. Crysis might use sm4.0 but the implementation might be half baked and through a patch (same as farcry which implemented sm 3.0 in 1.3 patch). Future proof is a non-existant term when it comes to Gpus :(

Nothing will last the top of the table in terms of features and performance for 2 years. That never happens.
BTW 7800GT still costs 22-23k not 15-16 ;)
The offer on 7900GT from darklord is special offer for TE members ;)
And in that case it will make 0 sense in getting 7900 from UK for 2k difference be it BIG here ;)
the best strategy is to buy what needed when you need it. Sell it before something new comes and buy new thing. In the end you end up spending less or same over 3-4 years than suck up old card for 2 years and then make bigger jump. You can make 2-3 small jumps spending similar money. And you get to use decent machine over the period of time.
I dont believe in buying hardware keeping 2 years in mind.

Lmao just saw who has voted for what option and i've official confirmation of Rahul being a Nv fanboi

He's voted for a 7800gt !

Udit, dude. he is buying from UK not US.

And even then 299 to 439 is considerable gap. its not 140 rupees, its 140$. Yes performance is there but budget matters ;)

was he talking about X1800XT 256MB?

if he has a budget of $299 then he should get X1800XT 256MB if 7900GT is out of stock.

I was thinking he had a budget of $400 that is why suggested wrongly.

Yea true, but now almost all games coming out this year will support SM3 as all current(6xxx,7xxx,x1xxx) GPU's support it. And by H2 next year we will see games that use SM4. Afaik, Crysis has been implemented completely with SM4/dx10 not just a patch. But basically a high end card in about a year's time becomes as good as a new mid-range card. So finally its up to u mohit, if u really want to play with HDR/SM3 get the x1800xt( u can play with HDR+AA as well), else wait till say december and get a new card then.

Yes but in a fast moving tech such as GPUs i stick to the "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" philosophy. g80 and r600 releasing by year's end with full sm4.0 complaince cannot be predicted. Also from what i hear Nv is taking a hybrid approach to the unified architecture which is a must for dx10 gpus. So whether or not the g80 will be fully dx10 complaint cannot be known for certain. Plus this year with the release of ut2k7 and oblivion i'd rather play those games at full settings now than wait for a year. Also keep in mind that around march next year the refresh for the g80/r600 will be released which imho would be the ones you should be getting.

another update guys :

unfortunately the deal on the sapphire x1800xt has ended .. my bad luck.

anyways i have shortlisted the following cards now .. please temme which is the best deal.

1. HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB GDDR3 - 15k

2. XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX Edition 256MB GDDR3 - 12.5k

3. Leadtek GeForce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 - 14.5k

temme which is the best to go for and howz this HIS brand ? ill have to upgrade now coz my deal on my x850xt is almost finalized.

^^ Outta those choices, 7800GT is the only good 1.

Id say stick with yout x850xt pe, and upgrade to a DX10 card in December. :)

7800GT in that case.... but try getting a 7900GT.... it is cheaper than the 7800GT was at launch.... but again, UK prices may be higher.... upto you...

@GF --- Read clearly :P He has said Deal on his X850 XT PE is almost finalised. It wont be right for him to back out of the deal at the last moment...

7900's are not easily available in the UK... in fact, they're on backorder in the US as well - read here :P

If you have to sell your X850, get the 7800GT based on the cards you listed.

okie thank u guys .. will go for the 7800GT. btw wont the overclocked xxx 7600GT be as good as a 7800GT ??

Oh, sorry, didnt read that.

Anyways, 7800GT's your only choice now :P.

The 7900GT must be for about 350 Euro, which is like 16k. :).
