Graphic Cards Which Graphic Card do i Buy?????

8800gts for 15k will take sometime 4 sure as there is nothin in the market 2 beat it so if u can literally wait a FEW MONTHS , still dont as something or the other jus keeps comin out in the market

thats how this industry is ,if u keep waiting for new stuff prices 2 go down, you wont end up buyin anything so its ur call what exactly do you wanna do

It would be pointless to get a graphic card right now. Wait for ATI DX10 cards coming out in January/February, and by then NVIDIA DX10 cards will come down in price, then make your decision according to that.

waiting for prices to fall is like waiting for seasonal apples to drop from a tree... buy when you feel the need to do so or whenever you card runs outta gas IMO for graphics cards.... waiting is a fools game...

Yea, then ask this poor chap to get DX9 based graphic card right now. 8800GTS is going to come down in price very soon, and it makes more sense to get a card with all latest technologies.

I know you don't have the upper department, but believe me it's always better to spend money sensibly. From what I know "money doesn't grow on trees".

Oh, and try to keep away from me.

Sensible spending is how u spend when there is a need :ohyeah:
In that way, given the present situation, it is sensible to get a mainstream DX9 card, unless the buyer is willing to forego/postpone his plans of purchase/upgrade for a few months (say 6-7 months)

Hmm no point waiting, in 6 mths after another revision a better card with a more realistic real esate parameter might arrive, etc..
The endline is buy when u got the money ;) And no point in going for a video card over 300$ the price:performance is simply not worth it.
Just my 83 paisa ( 2 pence approx )

No you don't get me, not only 8800GTS is coming down in price, but there are MANY (yes MANY) NVIDIA DX10 mainstream cards are going to hit market very soon. Do a google search for it, I think there are almost ten NVIDIA DX10 based cards are coming. Don't let the poor chap to get DX9 based card now.

Think about it.

I did a Google search for "nVidia DirectX 10 cards' and I must say the search turned next to nothing. Cud u pls enlighten which 10 (or almost) nV DX10 cards are in the pipeline in the immediate future? And when u say the price of 880)GTS is coming down, what is ur basis?

Gimme some food for thought.

@Radeon

That link only proves that it will be atleast 4 months b4 they are available in India...again thats specualtion..

What ego game...you are the one whos making provocative posts...

As of now, that report speculates the release of the 5 cards (not 10) in Feb 2007. Prices wont crash immediately after the launch of the cards. Moreover, if the cards are catering to the entry level segment, u cant expect the 8800GTS to drop in prices either.

Besides, if you've really tracked this Graphic Industry, you would know when you can expect prices to come down. ATI is coming up with R600 in January, and NVIDIA would immediately slash the prices for 8800GTS and 8800GTX.
I'm not much of a hardcore fan/follower of GPU tech but in the past few years I've observed major price drops in GPU only when the next-gen GPU is released. Otherwise, its minor cuts ($20~50) here n there. Also, there is no concrete evidence R600 will outperform 8800GTX. Even if it does, it'll be April/May 2007 before we would see the 8800GTS settle to the $300~350 levels. May is still 6 months away!

Moreover, all that speculation is with respect to the US market. Indian market is not as quick to respond to price cuts, not w.r.t GPUs atleast. U can see even a 7900GS selling at around 15k in India!! and that too only now! how long has the 7900 series been in the market?

GIven the above facts and given that q8hr has a budget of 15k, IMHO, it'll be atleast 6-7 months b4 u'll get a 8800GTS at around 20k in INdia. Hence my point.

er..

^^ Somebody stop him ;)

Yeah as I mentioned in my previous post, no point waiting tech will keep on upgrading, and the effect to reach India will be longer. Also we dont have any solid dx 10 games to actually check the performance of 8800 cards in SM 4.0 apps
Theorectically they are fast, but unified shaders require some really long codings, its upto the game devs whther the extra time is really worth it, it will be much worse if R600 has a diff path.

All said and done, the common sense is....

1. Prices will always be on higher side for "top in town" cards.

2. Even if DX10 games will be there, they are not going to run "that bad" on DX9c cards.

3. Being a benchmark freak you always have to shell out good bucks on gr8 cards.

4. For today.... go for a 79gs or 1950pro for around 12.5k

5. For tomorrow (i.e. after R600 and half a dozen 8series stuff is launched) price will go down on 7 series... probably 79gt will be available for around 12k then.
