Hi everyone,
I have currently ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard with NVidia graphics onboard . I am getting a Dell monitor which will support HDTV, HDCP etc. I am not a game fan. But like to run Simulators (like Flight simulator) and HD Video. And Mainly I will be doing photo editing.
which graphic card is best suited for me? I am looking for a decent one.
thanks in advance,
Anand

if the budget is within 10 k then 9600gt would do great. if u can extend by 2k then get the 8800GT. no brainer. of if u want a still cheaper variant go for the 8600gt DDR3 around 5k. :)

since no budget....go for the 9800 GX2:hap2: .... Rs 34750/-

ok lets get serious now...
3870 X2 Rs 23250
8800 GTS Rs.18,900.00 MSI
8800 GT Rs.12,900.00 MSI
9600GT Rs. 9,500.00 Palit
8800 GTS 640 Rs 9k second hand from market
8800 GTS 320 Rs 7500.00 EVGA thru KMD
HD3650 Rs 6100
8600 GT Rs 5000 Local XFX mostly
HD3450 Rs 3900
Price sources Phoenix threads and KMD quotes and thread prices

missed a lot of cards..as I can't confirm prices

^^ saw thread where there is a go for gigabyte cards..

8800gt at abt 11.2k
8600gt 256 at abt 4.7k..

Since you will be playing games like flight simulator which are more cpu dependent, I would suggest buying a HD 3650. I think it has HDMI as well. Else you could buy a 8600GT which has hdmi.

I'm using a 8600GT which is enough for midrange gaming. The HD 3650 is an excellent alternative to it.

Thanks for everyone for good suggestions. I think 8800 GT or 8600 GT would do for me. But for watching HD video , 8600 GT will be enough?
I have to think about pocket, since I have placed order for my 26K monitor. 2408WFP Ultrasharp.

I would like to know what is the power consumption for 8800GT and 8600GT.
Why these are costlier than 9600 series?
One more basic question. Why graphics cards are expensive in general? Because of the DSP chip they use on board or sophisticated image processing algorithms they embedd on these?
My motherboard has PCI-X slote. What are the slotes supported by 8800GT and 8600GT?

Forgot to add with previous posts.
My new monitor will support HDMI input, HDCP so on. All theser out puts will be available with 8800GT and 8600GT?

Hmm at 24" its better to go for the 8800gt, if u have time wait an another 15-20 days with the release of the newer cards u might see a 2k fall in the 8800gt :)

go for 9600GT man if u need urgently....it has HDCP and HDMI...or stick with memnom's suggesstion

Do not go for 8800 Gt or 9600 Gt.. They are not meant for you if you are not into gaming or benchmarking :P Get yourself HD 3850 from ATI or get the newly released 9600 GSO.. For 9600 GSO contact KMD [I don't think they are available in Indian Market yet] ..

^Have any of you tried playing FS:X at 1920*1200 on a 3650 or it's ilk?

@Anandkrishnantc - you should be aiming for an 8800GT minimum, especially if you're into flight sims.

@Anand, The 4870s and the 9900gt's are gonna be released in less than a month with atleast 1.5x the performance of todays card with give or take 2-3k as a price tag. so getting a Card today is utterly unreasonable so wait for an another 25 days, that would make u happier :)

Hi,
thanks for the advice. Anyway my monitor is on the way. Dell told by 29th of May will be here. Anyway I will wait till June end to decide on the graphic card.
