Which Headphone+Sound card to buy?

H i guys I have a budget of 4k~5k for my desktop audio solution.

I have SHP 2500 and EP 830---->SHP 2500 is not loud enough even at max volume and I am disappointed with EP 830.

1.} I need a headphone (or 5.1 speakers new/used)+ Soundcard.

2. } How much difference will Xonar make over audigy value 7.1?

3. } How is this combination.
Audigy value+Inspire m4500 4k approximate.
Xonar Dx + my current headphones
 
Jst get a Audigy value for now - rs. 1.4k U will get a volume boost for sure + gr8 clarity + quality. Very GOOD VFM sound card. Then get sennheiser headphones or smthing within ur budget.

XONAR DX is NOT worth the money unless u have Speakers costing 7k+ or headphones costing 5k+ (Atleast Sennheiser 555).

EDIT: Important:

If u give a damn abt Audio, NEVER USE ONBOARD SOUND CARD (It's B.S.)
 
Something is not right here, there can't be that much of a diff between the zune & your pc's inbuilt audio.
 
If I plug Ep830 in to my system (478 scoket MB) I can hear background noise.

i am upgrading for 5.1 setup/headphone so I need a good sound card to complement it.

Thats what i mean, this should not happen.

I'm suspecting the electricals might not be right or PSU problem. Your system is far too noisy to be normal.

If this is true then it won't matter what card you try as the result will still be the same.
 
Ahh, this is the first time you mention you will change the mobo as well.

What format are your audio files ?

...........at least till now since my P4 PC cant cope with HD content.

Currently I have 2.1 Harman Kardon speakers. Though I dont use them much.
 
So how long till you upgrade your system then ?

The idea is to use the new systems on-board audio.

Given your budget (5k?) think its a waste to go for a soundcard. At that price i doubt there would be much diff soundwise at all.

Only if 5.1 is necessary then it might be worth considering.
 
Ok . I have decided on this Logitech X540/ X530 + Audigy value.

(would xonar/m-audio revolution 7.1 make a difference over audigy value with X 540)

I can extend the budget, no problem till 10k. But I want Value for money 5.1. No fancy Zalman 5500. thts not for me, at least for a while.
 
@blr_p: u listen to music/audio alot? Have u ever tried using a decent sound card like Sound Blaster 5.1 (entry level), or Creative Audigy Value, Or Creative Live, Or Xonar DX............... Any of these? or u stick to onboard audio? Jst experience a sound card once anywhere n u shall never favour onboard audio ever again (Provided u have headphones costing rs.150+ or speakers costing 2k+).



@gowtham: EXCELLENT CHOICE! Audigy value is enuf for X-540.

As is said before, Xonar DX/M-Audio is a waste of money until u have speakers of 7k+ or headphones of 5k+..

Believe me, buy audigy value n jst listen to it, u wont ask for nything more.

Onboard audio until i can spring for a m-audio. I'd like to think the difference would be more apparent than the products you listed. Entry level is not worth it IMO.

But then is it worth it just for mp3s ? thats the question that i have not been able to answer.

I use a P3 for playback and do not face any of the background noise issues the OP mentioned.

Won't these be more beneficial if you game or need surround for movies ?

I don't do much of either, just hook my audio to a hi-fi, with 4ft speakers, its just plain 2-channel stereo.
 
ah I didnt mention wht use I will be putting to....my mistake

Gaming+ movies=70% rest audio

So X540+ SB live worth it?
Wht abt Steelseries 3H? I am very tempted @ the price offered. 1.8k
