Hi ppl,

I need to install a power backup system in my newly acquired home. I need to run at least 2 PCs + projector + av receiver + 3 or 4 other equipments (Set Top Boxes, cable modems... etc.)

I need all your experience for following issue

1. Shall completely relay on the inverter for PC backup or should there be locally installed UPS' also?

2. Which inverter goes best with PCs?
3. Which inverter goes best with PCs with UPS'?

do not risk the PC with an inverter.

you will need an inverter with atleast 2KVA to power all these.

As for the inverter i guess Microtek or SuKam should do the trick

simultaneously? :S
planning to run all electronics equipments in the house at the same time?
thats too much load on any inverter/backup system for homes. :bleh:

For the PC's atleast go for UPS rather than a inverter. The AC output waveform of an inverter is not anywhere near sinosoidal not atleast as good as a decent UPS would produce and may prove to be harmful for PC's in the long run.

sukam or may be micro tek are making invertor cum ups which have a sine wave output.....they can be used both for invertor and ups use.....

Thanks guys for all words of wisdom.
From your suggestions, I have decided a couple of things....

1. Only main rig to run on back up.
2. Will always put an ups with every pc.

Now, your valuable advice is requested for the following...

1. Which inverter goes best with UPS' ? Or let me rephrase which is the best inverter/UPS pair goes best?
2. What about having an Inverter cum UPS.... microtek and sukam are marketting these types of products these days? Anyone of you having any first hand experience of using them? Also, how is the switch-over experience? Do PC's reboot when the switchover happens?

Thanks :hap2:

i had gone to a persons place who had this sukam inverter. It just happened that the light happened to go off, and i noticed this because the lights just blinked for a second before the inverter display lighted on. So IMO this one second is good enough to restart ur pc.

APC seems to sell some ups saying its generator compatible. I dont remember which one, u'll have to see that site. I think its above 1000VA ups or something like that.

no need to get a ups/inverter combo....I my self is using a 1400 va sukam....no problem till now...no trip while change over .....and runs fine on genrater also......

I think you should go for it.......

Thanks ppl for all the suggestions,

I think a pure sine wave inverter with local ups backup for each PC is the best solution? What do you think?

IMO, Inverter and UPS differentiation comes from the switching time and how switching is handled and has nothing to do with shape of output waveform. Inverter also comes with sinusoidal or trapezoidal output waveforms depending on model and price.

Generally, inverter switching time is more compared to UPS and results in PC to loose power.

I have APC inverter at home which also powers the PC APC UPS and have no problem so far. However, APC range is under 1KVA and may not be suitable for your need.

@raghvindersingh, Have you experienced any issue like the one mentioned by 6pack?

NONE at all....I am using it myself and I dont find any issues with it...I think spending money on ups for each pc is waste of money....I think only one sukam will do the job..............:)
