Hi,

A friend of mine who is a designer is thinking of getting a pen tablet and asked me about which one of these better:

A WaCOM Pen tablet

An iBall Pen Tablet

As my knowledge of these is very limited. I am forwarding the question to you.

Taking a broader perspective, which brand / model is currently most VFM, and what is its availability in India / abroad ?

Meanwhile I shall start my research.

Thanks,

~M

IT depends on your budget and the type of work you want done.

I was looking around for a pen tablet, sometime back and had narrowed down to the IBall 9x12, since my requirement was less and also budget was limited. Also since I wanted to use it occasionally, didn't want to spend too much.

So if you want to use it regularly and do some fantastic work, then Wacom would be better. Provided you are not constrained by budget.

Else IBall fits the bill.

IBall 9x12 is available for around Rs 8K in Bangalore.

Does size matter that much ? A 4X6 tablet Bamboo Fun from Wacom is for 5 K now. I haven't found any reviews about the iBall tablet, and Wacom is considered to be the pioneer in this field.

Budget is around 5 K

If you have the money and you are a professional in the field Wacom is the way to go. Since it has much better pressure sensitivity than other brands. Otherwise for daily use and study any other company is good. My friend just bought an Iball one and its pretty good.

I have used my friends Wacom 4x6 tablet and found the space to be too little. I would prefer a 9x12, since that is equal to a fullscape (A4) page. You have lot of area to move around. OR atleast an Iball 8x6 which is available for 3.5K.

Also the specs of the Iball 9x12 are very good. Only gripe is that it is USB 1.0 and not USB 2.0. But that should not matter much.

@ malik

I also wanna buy a pen tablet...same budget - 5k

I am interested in bamboo (mte - 450k).
I checked the price on the site wacomindia.com and its for Rs. 4010 (incl. VAT and shipping)

@ everyone

can some1 tell me if I can get any better deal for this? I am from Pune. Also, is there any octroi applicable if you buy online? if yes, how much?

I really won't suggest anything other than a Wacom due to the driver support, battery less pen, great scaling and build quality.

the iball tablets, though large tend to die out after a couple of months (or so i have heard.)

I use an MTE450 too. Had got it directly from Trifin, the official India distris of Wacom products for 3.65k about 2 years back,

Hi RVK,

I also checked the price, and it is 4,999 effective from Januray 2009. I downloaded a PDF from their website. Where did you get your price quoting from ?

Thanks,

Mallik

@ malik

I got the price on my email by filling the form on the site (just name..email-id stuff) site - wacomindia

there it says...the price incl. of VAT @ 4% and Rs 500 freight = Rs. 4010 (octroi extra maybe applicable but no other extra charges)

do u know hom much otroi wud be?

I also checked their local dealers in Pune...but lowest price I got was 4500 (excl. taxes) and they wud order it for me and wud require a week for delivery! 2nd store didnt even know what model i was talking abt! :@
and one other store has stopped selling it..! so I guess ordering from their site is the only option that I have right now...

Can some1 please tell me any other better deal that I can get? I am from Pune (If I can get a better price in Mumbai, then I can ask some1 to buy it for me in Mumbai and send it to me)

Please people...help me.
Thanks

suggest you both to go to a store and check out the options available and not just buy one which fits your budget ...IMHO bamboo is useless

You are right. But the problem is,

1. As I said, no store in Pune that I inquired has Bamboo for display. And as my budget is around 5K, I don't even want to consider the Intuos series which is way out of my budget.

2. I don't want to buy any other brand's tablet coz I hav heard a lot of issues for iBall tablet and well...don't even know about any other company that sells tablets in India...

So, actually I do not have any other option. I am a student, and want Bamboo for drawing/artwork purpose..I know the working area for Bamboo will be quite less..but I cannot afford a bigger one as I don't earn money

Thats why I am going with Bamboo as my final choice!
