So, which is the good configuration?

If i buy assembled, then what would be the cost?

Should i go for branded or assembled??????????

assembled u should go for..though i suggest you check up the price u mentioned...the total pack seems to be a bit on the high side considring there is not graphics card in it..

dunno why, but I have a feeling Mihir couldn't care less for a dediacted gfx card on his machine :ohyeah:

but then again:

256 MB DDR RAM

80GB - 7200 HDD

1.44 FDD

DVD - CDRW COMBO DRIVE

INTERNET & MM READY KEYBOARD

OPTICAL MOUSE

ON BOARD AGP/10100 MBPS LAN ON BOARD

43.1 CM (17) BLACK CRT MPR II CERTIFIED MONITOR

CREATIVE SBS 370, 2+1 SPEAKER WITH SUBWOOFER

INTERNAL MODEM

LINUX (WINDOWS XP AVAILABLE)

1 YEAR BACK TO BENCH wARRANTY

100 HRS INTERNET CONNECTION

26K is quite a high price for this.....and I'd go for a assembled PC for the following 3 reasons:

- Warranty on individual parts will vary from 1 year to upto lifetime guarantee on RAM as opposed to the the std 1 year warranty on branded PCs (esp. the 5 yr warranty on HDD in assemble PCs is reason enough for one to change the decision in favor of assembled ones)

- More control & flexibility in terms of mixing and matching components

- You do not have to pay for the advertising and marketing cost + the other operational/fixed costs bundled by Acer/Compaq/XYZ into their PCs...meanng more bang for your buck .....

On the flip side....umm..actually I can't think of a single reason why I'd go for a branded desktop (from an individual user buying for personal use PV, not a corporate) ....

Dude. This is the Worst question any1 can ask.

Obviously its Assembled.

Branded is only good for Offices and shit.

Most people in USA even, go for Assembled even though companies like Alienware are around.

Assembled = Cheap

Branded = SuX.

guys..
assembled system is good for ppl who know their hardwares..who have basic troubleshooting knowledge if and when sumthing goes wrong(and sumthing will go wrong sooner or later)..
now i personally consider it no less than a sin to go in for a branded PC for various reasons mentioned above..
but..
if a person is new to computers with only software usage knowledge, then it only makes sense for him to go in for a branded PC with a good service backup..wat is he gonna do when sumthing goes bust..atleast for 1 year he can be trouble free...

So lets see how much this machine would cost

Board+CPU - 8K
256 MB DDR RAM - 1.2K
80GB - 7200 HDD - 2.5K
1.44 FDD - 200 bux
DVD - CDRW COMBO DRIVE - 1300-1400 bux
INTERNET & MM READY KEYBOARD - 400 bux
OPTICAL MOUSE - 350 bux
43.1 CM (17) BLACK CRT MPR II CERTIFIED MONITOR - 5.7K
CREATIVE SBS 370, 2+1 SPEAKER WITH SUBWOOFER - 1.2K
INTERNAL MODEM - 200 bux
[FREE - COMBAT ARCADE game pad far cry 64 bit game] 400bux for pad. Not counting cost of game.

Total: 8K+1.2K+2.5K+.2K+1.4K+0.4K+.35K+5.7K+1.2K+0.2K+0.4K = 21.55K

So the fellas are making around 6K profit. Its obviously better to go for an assembled system. For that cost, you can add a graphics card and more ram. I wonder why they are giving farcry with that machine cos it won't even run on the via unichrome crap :P.

Morons giving 256 mb RAM, but atleast better then most of the oem dealers here who offer 128 mb RAM...

OEM's here are pathetic...

hey mihir I already told you. In borivli, mnemonics is the best. It on 2nd floor, apsara bldg, next to bunty juice corner.

& I would make a lucky guess that the ram must be 233mhz & hdd Pata (ok its mentioned) + a combo drive suks atleast it did for me... + psu must be 300w cheap one & so must be the mobo...I recently opened one of my old branded comp & got enlightened

I would suggest look around this forum & similar ones to know others configs & also many have given price ideas too, then decide the basic config, put it up here & go ahead...u'll get a much better PC with same budget.

costs a little high to me.maybe the total cost shouldn't go above 23k max.
try going to lamington road. u might find good deals there

Never ever go for a branded system.

In Borivali Mnemonics is the place to get ur stuff from.

OMG!!! , My net hung over here and my vote went to branded instead of assembled.
Mods Please do the needful.

I agree with this 100% ! Most people forget that not everyone can get down and dirty with opening up their PC's and troubleshooting when something goes wrong. The one advantage I see with Branded computers is that you get someone to manage your service/support. With an assembled piece, you would need to depend on tech-savvy friends.

I would definately say AMD. Which processor in AMD - depends entirely on your budget.
