The top end model of the 6 series uses LED backlighting as well which makes a *huge* difference to black levels.

No only the series 9 has LED backlighting . The diff. in black levels in higher end series 6 models(40 inch and above) is due to the Ultra Clear Panel .
 
How about the VU 40"? Its exactly 50k. I got it recently, the quality with samsungs and sonys kept next to it was at par. Plus its HDMI ready and you can directly plug in USB drives to it and watch stuff.

sound of s5_32" is nice, loud and clear..though i dont like to listen at very high volume..... and perhaps many people at residential areas does the same:p ...
