It is no doubt a nice Distro.. have even used it myself... but maybe not a good Distro for a newbie :P

Even i wasn't suggesting any newbie to use, i just mentioned it for sake of mentioning.

/me point to similie --> :P

+1 Ubuntu|Dreamlinux. However if you want to get used to RHEL (possibly for a linux oriented jobs) you'd want to go with CentOS. Or you could always triple boot Windows/Ubuntu/Centos

Dreamlinux is one of the most innovated distro but the set off application and core its uses is too old.. Its not advisable to use it as it might not suport latest machine or might create panic :p

P.s : It fails to detect multiple HDD during installation !

I must say that once a guy talks about "trying" Linux, all people starts recommending this distro and that distro. So he'll try Knoppix for some time and then Mandriva and then Ubuntu. These will never become his default operating system (most of the time the guy will be quad booting or like ). Having lots of options to choose from can become a bane sometimes. Why dont we zero in on a distro that is newbie friendly ..?

Personally I'd recommend Mint and here are the reasons :
* Based on Ubuntu / Deb -- Great amount of software and support available.
* More user friendly for beginners : Come on. You've installed an operating system which boasts of all softwares integrated and it cant play an mp3 or an avi file ..? Install restricted drivers et al (and not many ppl have an unlimited broadband plan). Mint will have most codecs and so called restricted drivers installed by default.
* Great interface : You have to use it feel this.
.... I can blah blah like this for some more time but then the reader will lose interest ..

@OP : Congrates on your choice, believe me you'll feel in an alien world for some time while you are using Unix but soon you'll start enjoying it. Be patient and keep experimenting (there I said the words.. it doesnt mean you install one distro every week) .. And dont worry ... if you face any problem, you'll have a very big community to help you out ..

A correction.. Great Amount of old software for a particular release/repo :p

So does Mandriva and Sabayon..

+1 .. You have to use yourself to experience it :)
