  1. What is your budget (range)?
  2. Are you looking for any good-to-haves, such as more NVMe slots?
  3. Are there any specifics that are important to you, such as PCIe 5.0 being a must?

They've apparently isolated it to some Bios issue, which they're rolled out updates for.

I use the MSI Carbon Wifi X870E. I was told that it had better VRMs, but I now think its a tad unnecessary and I should have bought something cheaper. The B850s weren't out when I got it. I'd suggest looking at any X870E, X670E or B850 motherboard. The X870s are apparently, worse than the x670e motherboards. They called it a supposed rebrand.

According to HardwareUnboxed the best X870e motherboard was the AsRock Nova. Keep in mind that the failing CPU issues, while predominantly on AsRock Motherboards, other brands are affected as well. The overall consensus is that the issue is small compared to the total sales of 9800X3D chips, but its an issue nonetheless.

Also, As far as PCIe Gen5 goes, not all x670e motherboards will have support for it, so it might help taking that into consideration.

This is how I ended choosing an X870E motherboard for my setup.
 
Its quite simple tbh.. first figure out what all components are you buying? if you are buying ASUS GPU's and ASUS Coolers.. it makes sense to invest into a ASUS board.. because then you can have a centralised software like the armory crate for all fan/lighting/driver controls.. Same goes for other manufacturers like MSI and Gigabyte.

Next decide on a budget and goto pcpricetracker.. type in: Asus b850 or Asus B650 and sort by price.. then compare feature sets between different motherboard models by the manufacturer you intially selected.

9800X3D isnt very power hungry and doesnt need the best of the best board.. you can probably get away with the base models from most manufacturers.

Isn't armoury crate the worst software to ever exist or something? Not saying this personally, just something I keep reading online when it comes to that software lol. But yes your main point to keep ARGB type compatible across everything in the cabinet is very solid. You do not want the headache of trying to figure out why the colours are not syncing or why one setting ruins the other etc. BIG headache.
It astonishing why manufacturers haven't been able to decide on ARGB system across the board (no pun intended haha). It has to be because some use proprietary hardware/software and others are mixed between proprietary and compatibility with open-source software.

If we go by this article from Tomshardware you can buy MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX Wifi @ 23k but cheaper option like Gigabyte B850M Gaming X WIFI6E @18k is fine.
MSI one has 4 M.2 slots but only 2 are PCIe 5.0 whereas Gigabyte has 2 M.2 slots with only 1 being PCIe 5.0.

They've actually made all armoury crate components optional now.. you can choose which components you want.

The earlier versions might have been buggy idk.. but the current version I use is pretty solid and reliable.

I have asus components mostly and so its quite decent for me.

Its not a mandatory standard, AFAIK. Some of them do have them, but not all.

EDIT: You're right. I had its mixed up. Its the USB 4.0 that's optional. Apologies.

I ordered this after some research. I paid 3k extra over B650 Gaming X AX V2 for Gen5 GPU slot & GPU easy release button mainly, but the VRMs are also slightly better with 12+2+2 vs 8+2+2 in older one.

Unless you desperately need the 4th M.2 slot, that mobo is enough.
