I'm getting a BSNL home ul plan i have a few questions,

1. Do the home ul plans provides less bandwidth than the only night ul plans?

2. I plan to make a wifi setup, which router+modem would be the best and recommendable? if i change connections later can i use it with other providers as well? Or it will be better to go for a BSNL wifi plus modem solution? or a BSNL modem and a normal wifi router without the modem option would be better?

Avoid D-Link at any cost. Go in for a ADSL Modem + Wifi Router Combo like the Linksys WAG200 / WAG325N or something similar from Buffalo / Netgear.

Ya Dlink sucks.. maximum amount of conenction drops that too mostly wen u goto sleep :@

yes, home plans are typically 256 and 512 kbps at the max

Night UL all are upto 2mpbs - and most of the time, you can get 200kpbs download speed, if used smartly :)

But the free hours is from 2AM to 8AM and managing the downloads during that time will be difficult for first timers. Unless u r careful u can easily pay a huge bill

I think there is too much hearsay about D-Link.

I've using the GLB-502T for the last year (MTNL NU) which i bought from SMC Computers, NP (not from MTNL mind you, they may even have chinky duplicates) and I never had any problems with it (yep and even most of my downloads are not resumable). Using in bridge mode from day 1. there may be better quality product available nevertheless but at a premium.

I am also using the same model from past one year, no problems at all.

AFAIK, the firmware has been updated and now newer ones don't have issues.

IMO, get a Router from BSNL itself.

DLink is a big nono :hap5: .......its good when your line is in good condition and power supply free from spike n surges.......i had bad time with it from last 2 years with all updates......nite dlaods were like miracles for me....1 outta 7 days it used to work rest time :@ ..... rite now iam using Pronet PN-ADSL 101E/U...touch wood no more disconnection  and even if the line drops it refreshes with new parameters and keeps on goin ;)........

Anish you mean a router that can act as both ADSL modem as well as the usual wifi stuff and not seperate each of them right, How about the Buffallo G125? It does both of em right?

Or the ones you listed are better than that? Any idea regarding the current market prices, as this is the first router I'm going to buy.

Also isnt the N specification still uncertified unlike the a/b/g ones? does it means it can have possible inerference issues with anything or any harmful effects?

Does Vista supports all these routers?

^^ i do agree......when i was having line issues, BSNL officer gave me BSNL modem to test...it was awsome too....my experience says big brands don't work with desi lines :P

N is fine, no interference, etc. All routers are also Vista compatible. As for the ADSL modem, no clue, D-Link is hopeless, will try Linksys in a week or so, otherwise as others have said, stick to BSNL.
