I need to get a pen drive ASAP. which one shud I get?
TRANSCEND 1GB V30 JetFlash (or) SANDISK Cruzer Micro 1GB ??

Both comes with 2 Yr. warranty I guess. Need your help in making a decision.
Thanks in advance, :hap2:

^^ SANDISK Cruzer Micro 1GB or Kingston Data Traveler II are the brands you should be looking at

the TRANSCEND 1GB V30's are so damn slow that you will probably throw it off the roof. they dont even cross the Kbps barrier while writting :| btw the 120 series from transcend has very nice write speeds :)

they will probably fall slowly to the ground too

+ 1 for the kingston's from me

I'll say Sandisk or Transcend 120 if you can find em...

Have had bad experience with 3 out of 5 Kingston drives my friends have bought/won...with speeds as slow as the infamous Transcend v30

No such bad luck with the 4 Sandisks I have tested tho...

I've a 512MB Transcend v150 jetflash and it is twice as fast in write speeds vs my 1GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro (with retractable connector and U3).

thanx everyone :)

@broar94: i haven't checked any of those pen drive reviews till today

but now i've read the review for sandisk cruzer and it seems to be a good choice.

Yep...go for it, especially the one with the retractor if you can find it...

Oh and see if you can find the Transcend V120/V150 series...write speeds are around 12-13MBPS on these...would cost a bit extra though...

^^ Yeah, but its pretty Hard to find these 120's and 150's these days...

Didnt find anyone stocking these at NP :(

Yepp, I want one higher capacity(1GB or 2GB) Transcend V150 for myself. Can't seem to get it anywhere in B'lore. Only crappy V30 is available.

The Sandisk Cruzer 1.0GB is a little too slow for me. The retractable connector is really functional however. Love that feature. Maybe the new Sandisk 2GB keys are faster. But IMO, Kingston would be better for speed.

Below is some data I' d compiled when I was searching for a USB pen drive. I've mentioned read/write speeds. I've been getting different values from different sites. The values in brackets seem to be actual values vs theoretical values but they values vary for data chunk sizes. I've mostly considered 256KB to 2MB chunk size. the data below is in no way the exact speed of the drive but is rather an indicator for comparison. Maybe it'll help. Go through it at your own risk :p Feel free to correct them if they're wrong.

Kingston
DataTraveler Elite 24(19.6)/14(16.3) MB/s
DataTraveler II Plus - 19/13
DataTraveler II - 11(10.4)/8(4.4-5.5)
DataTraveler - 6.5(9.1-9.4)/1.5(2.7-3.3)
DataTraveler ReadyFlash 20/16
DataTraveler U3 smart 11/1.75

Corsair flash voyager 16(17.6-18.4)/12(9.5-12.2)
Corsair voyager GT 30/26

Sandisk Cruzer Micro U3 1GB 18/5
Sandisk Cruzer Micro 2GB 18/8

OCZ Rally: 22(25-27.3)/8
OCZ Rally 2: 23/14

I would recommend the Sandisk for reliability. Have had trouble with Transcend before. The only problem with Sandisk is the U3 software which more often than not doesn't work (atleast for me) - so I just uninstall it on day 1!

No one mentioned about Vista Ready boost ?

Look for it maybe when you switch to Vista you can use your pen drive to boost up vista.

If you are not sure whats the option pls do google.
