Hi Guys,

I have changed to a new ISP...and they provide internet through fiber...i.e. a cable directly goes to the computer lan port...and use a web authentication system..I have a pc and laptop...I tried configuring my bsnl modem cum router to work with pc and laptop simultaneously...but seems like its not working..I am able to connect using any one of them not both..So decided on buying a new dedicated router....

Now please suggest me a good router which supports open source firmware(err..forget the names of firmware...OpenWRT)...budget is 2k..can extend if the increase in cost has any immediate benefits...

Are you sure it's through Fiber? Cable going to your LAN port is a normal lan cable from your router. I don't know of any ISP's which run a lan cable direct to your home.Usual way is they install a modem with router inside your home and from the router you use the internet inside your house. Could you please provide more details like your ISP and which technology they use like ADSL or Cable? Maybe If you are using bridges mode in your router you will only be able to use one PC at a time. There may not be any problem with your router. If you provide with details of your ISP and the router you are using I can try to help you.

I think so by open firmware you mean DD-WRT BTW I would also like to know some decent routers for around 2 - 2.5K that work well with ddwrt I know some good ones but they are expensive like ASUS RT N16, BTW How are the Buffalo routers they also support ddwrt has any one use them if so specific model.

yeah..I meant DD-WRT/Tomato..this is the first time I am thinking of a buying router..so our resident experts should help us..

My basic goal is to use a PC, a netbook(as a 24/7 download machine) and a Smartphone...I want to configure router to autodial coz my isp has a web based authentication(heard somewhere that with DD-WRT router can be used for autologin using wget..) so that I dont have to type in username/password..

I am ok with increasing my budget..so googled and read some reviews about Buffalo routers..Considering buying the below

1)Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N - Rs 3300/-(no reviews)

2)Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH - Rs 4650/-(Read some excellent reviews and some horrible experiences on amazon..there is a detailed guide on using this router with DD-WRT in TE itself..)

Could not find any other reviews of other routers...

Can somebody post their feedback/suggestions...
