Storage Solutions Which Sata HDD To Buy ??

Guys,

Right Now i have Seagate 200GB Ide Hdd Now Planning go get another Hdd.
And planning to buy Sata Hdd.

So Which Sata Hdd should i have to buy ?
Seagate or Samsung Or ??

200 or 250 or 320 Gb ?

it all depends..on how much u need..and whats u r budget...

the HDD space is something u need to specify..means weather u need 250 or 320 gb..etc. according..to how much u download stuff..and store on HDD..

..the restof the things like which model to go for .and etc etc..will be recommended by other guys..out here ..
 
You can get the Hitachi 320GB T7K500 in that budget, it's significantly cheaper than seagate, atleast here in Mumbai :)

Go with mohit man, the hdd is a 2-platter Hard disk so less noise and less power drawn and it incorporates perpendicular recording so fast data access and i read somewhere it matches the performance of a 10K Scsi if in a Raid Config,so it would do more good to you than Hitachi:hap2:
 
Slightly change in my plan..

I think i will buy 2x80 or 2x120 Sata HDD and will setup RAID 0 for performance because in vista my hdd score is 4.3. Right now i have 200gb seagate which i will use it as a backup hard disk.

What say guys ? Should i go for this setup ? if yes than which hdd seagate or hitachi ? Give me approx rates if possible..

RAID is not worth it imo, that too just to get better HD scores in Vista ... also when raid crashes it's difficult to recover data ... stick to normal setup unless you plan to use it for performing jobs that require fast transfer rates like video editing etc

I use my pc for internet, playing games, downloading stuffs.

So how do you rate raid 0 setup for gaming ?

At times i feel bigger capacity hdd are not worth...

cz i hav hd few crashes wid my old 40GB hdd n data lost was huge and it bites u wen u think of it..
so imagine loosin 320GB...damn it wud b real bad

m getin new pc soon, confusd ovr it evn my use wil b same as 'lovebhai'

wht do u ppl suggest..
 
@lovebhai : there will be some difference but still not worth it

@dipen : If you dont want a single large hdd, get a couple of 160gb single platter drives

I guess u r aware that with RAID 0 if one drive fails, ur entire 160/240GB data i conked. RAID 0 is best when set up only for the OS drive with smaller capacities, say, 36GB/40GB.

I'm planning to get a 320GB too. BTW, Hitachi comes with how many yr warranty? 3 or 5?
 
wel regardin 2 160 what wil b price diff wid 1 320...

besides do these hdd crash tht often!!,if not then i wud b willin to take hitachi/seagate 320...

but odrwise its risky isnt it?

n yea what abt warranties n price diff of both 320's ?

btw no-one seems to be a WD fan here :P
 
After your suggestions now i have two options.

1 - 2x80 Gb Sata In RAID Setup with 200 Gb Ide As a backup Hdd.

Or..

2 - 320 7200.10 Gb Sata Seagate as a Primary and 200 Gb Ide As backup Hdd.

BTW I Have already 200Gb Ide.

Is this 320 7200.10 Sata is faster than my current 200gb Ide ?

I'd prefer the 2nd option, getting a single 320gb for 5k odd rather than 2x80 for 4k odd ... also consider the hitachi, it's more reliable than seagate, cheaper than the seagate, and scores 64mbps against 67mbps for seagate ... my 2 cents :)

If your 200Gb is from the previous series i.e 7200.8/9 then ofcourse the current series will be much faster
