Well, I had a fight with some fanboys. My argument was that Nokia and SE are better when it comes to Smartphone design when compared to Samsung and HTC. What do you guys think?

Forget about the Operating System. Which of these manufacturers are better when it comes to smartphone design and adding features. It is a universal truth that Apple is superb when it comes to designs. Lets focus on these four.

HTC used to be good and innovative. Of late they have been repeating themselves.

Sony has excelled in this department for quite some time now

Ditto for Nokia, they have always been good at design, and with their recent phones have really left competition behind. Remember it gets hard to come up with GOOD new designs when there are already a plentiful in the market.
 
Nokia stands on top as far as designs are concerned.

SE are equally good with there phone designs but lack a bit in build quality (coming from an Xperia Owner)

So Nokia 1st and SE 2nd.
 
I like Motorola's design simple and industrial with no glossy finishes. Build quality is one of Motorola's hallmarks!
 
Each one of them has one phone which with spectacular looks, Samsung is an exception here. Also the least original designs are from Samsung. Wave 8500 was pretty decent build wise. Galaxy S2 wasn't exactly an eye-popper. Call volume is bad.

Sony Ericsson has excellent designs and Nokia has redeemed itself with the Lumia.

Personally I don't care for HTC's designs but their build quality seems to be better than Samsung.

Sony > Apple > Nokia

I would buy

Nokia > Apple/Sony

Samsung sells monstrous hardware packed in disgraceful exteriors and goes another step ahead and spoil the UI too. If Samsung sold their barebody units to Sony and let the latter design the exterior and UI, apple would have it's days numbered.

LG, decent but is lost in the race.

The reason why I posted this poll is different. It is to make two Nokia anti-fanboys cum Samsung fanboys that it is Samsung, not Nokia that is worst when it comes to smartphone design. And I think I have achieved that.

They make the best and fastest hardware in the market. I mean they are like the New Nokia. You see a prototype of a new processor and BANG! Sammy has it in their phones in a month or two. They make everyone look like grannies on a stick.

But design?

They have a long long way to go...that long is really long. I have no idea why a corporation as big as Sammy can't get simple "box" i.e the phone exterior design right but can get the fastest hardware with ease. Beats me!

Samsung makes really cool looking dumbphones though, I had one and it looked twice it's price. The smartphones they make look half their price.

IMHO, sony ericson has the best design, just love the look of ericson arc s . Next would be htc although now they seem to be sticking to one layout and just changing a couple of things here and there.
