I had DX back in June and at that time the encode was n ot working for me for whatever reasons and since DX and D2X have almost the same drivers(they have the same audio processor), so I am dead set against the D2X for now. If some one can show me proof of working live encode I will back off but not until then.

How does prelude compare to D2X except for X-Fi's gaming effects?

The most instantly striking change from our testing is the vast improvement in both playback and recording quality under Windows Vista, which manages to take the Xonar D2X from being an also-ran to a real challenger to our current king of the sonic hill, Auzentech's X-Fi Prelude. The fact that the Xonar D2X's RightMark Audio Analyser results often better Auzentech's latest offering is a real testament to the work done by ASUS in this field, and it lands this particular part firmly in audiophile territory.

Overall though, the Xonar D2X is almost a complete package, with simply fantastic audio quality, a full set of Dolby Digital Live and DTS functionality (still lacking from the X-Fi Prelude's publically available drivers at the time of writing)

Great stereo sound? From consumer soundcards? Forget it...
This is the sh1t:
E-MU Systems - 1212M PCI - PCI Digital Audio System

Anyways, FYI I tested the D2X and the X-Fi Plat for stereo, and frankly the difference is not more than 10% either way. I don't know how much you'll notice, but the scales shift either way for me.

well i'm no pro & emu has no directx :)

can you confirm if Dolby Digital Live & DTS Encoding to 5.1 works on D2X please?

Wouldn't the Xonar have a low power low distortion near line level out like most (supposedly) audiophile grade sound cards...

And in that case, wouldn't Udit be better off buying a basic Headphone amp instead of a sndcard upgrade?

What audio card are you using currently btw?

@czar: yeah second that, provided his current card aint gone kaput and is working flawlessly.

I don't want any more stuff which need power from mains or run on batteries so a basic Headphone amp is no no

I have a Auzentech X-Plosion 7.1 & I'm bored of it thus the upgrade :)

what ? :S
u mean that this card wont work with games or something ?
nothing like that..i own this monstaa and its a superb card and worth every penny.

if u have 12k to shell on a card this is the one with one of the best sound quality.
PS : this has nothing to do with my sale :ohyeah:

Hah, I thought the upgrade was meant to get better SQ :S

the digital out from your Auzentech will have zero/zilch/nada difference from the Xonar (= same SQ from the Logitech)

and any difference between the Analog out from the Auzentech and XOnar will be far less than the difference you'd get with even a basic headphone amp

true..why get Xonar when u own a Auzuntech and all that stuff?the difference is gonna be minimal.

actually the reason to upgrade is pci-e as I want to crossfire & doing that will block one of the two pci slots on my Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 & since both my tv tuner card & sound card are pci I'll get stuck

so now can anyone confirm if Dolby Digital Live & DTS Encoding to 5.1 works on D2X please :)

now if anyone says emu or amp I'm gonna blast them :P
