Which subscriptions are still worth paying for?

It's starting to feel like most companies have truly embraced enshittification, and the average customer is just throwing up their hands and going along with it.

I'm personally trying to move to a self-managed model, but curious to know if there are any subscriptions that you all are getting genuine value for money from.

If you watch live matches (Cricket, Football, tennis ) then Hotstar. YouTube+ saves a lot of time. I also have an Uber one subscription which saves me some money. Amazon Prime's based edition, but need to see how good or bad is it after ads. I also pay for Times Prime for some subscriptions under it .

For me its just Hotstar for live sports and Spotify for music. For cloud storage I just self host a NextCloud instance on an old laptop and for photos, hosted Immich on the same machine; works flawlessly. All this only works if you are OK with some tinkering every now and then.
For movies and shows, just use Stremio.

I have switched to netflix 199 rs plan instead of earlier 1080p/4k plan. I watch netflix very less and mostly on mobile. other than that i am in family sharing of following along with cost per person per year

onedrive 1 tb per member 600
spotify 360
yt premium 400

prices above are approx.

I would have subbed to none of them (spotify maybe) of family sharing didnt exist.

When I checked Times Prime it seemed the subscription durations and tiers were not very uniform. So did not go ahead at the time. Which of their subscriptions have been handy for you?

This actually makes sense. I switched to Stremio from Netflix but my partner has the 199 plan. I thought it would look horrible on the TV, but it's quite decent.

Stremio is seriously goated. I've been meaning to self host Nextcloud and Immich as well. Saw some complaints about Nextcloud feeling slow and bloated though. How's your experience been?

Yeah, it can feel a bit slow sometimes but for my use case, which is basically to fetch a few documents sometimes, it works fine. There are other alternatives though, which claim to be faster like the OwnCloud Infinite Scale, but those still lack the features that NextCloud has. I would say just give NextCloud a shot, its fast enough for most.

Immich though, its godsend. Amazing in every way. Its the first and most essential part of why I started self hosting.
I would say, just start self hosting with Immich and maybe if you feel the need add other things like NextCloud, JellyFin etc. Its better and saves me from the countless subscription that we need to pay for these days.

Just 2 for me - Youtube and Truecaller Premium.
For all ott needs - Stremio rules
Music - Shifted to YT music with my spotify playlists fetched manually during setup
Live cricket - Cricfy app for mobile, pc and tv.
Live football, nba etc streams - This suffices for atleast watching on PC
For photo storage - hosting a small immich server

199 NF sub
Amazon Prime (can't do as I buy a lot from amazon, not sure how their ads are gonna ruin the prime video)
Jio hotstar (that comes with jio prepaid for now)
Zee5
Sony liv
Shared, Spotify, apple music and office 365

Don't need yt premium as smarttube app does it great for me
