Hi

wud be getting new ups , need recommendations for the same

Backup time of 5-10 mins is required

I was considering the Microtek 800 VA or the APC 650

Can spend @ the most 3-3.5 K for the UPS

wud be later attaching the UPS to a normal Desi invertor with 500 W batteraaa ( any issues with that )

Here r the pc Specs

E2160 @ 3060 Mhz Default Vid is - 1.3250V - @ now is 1.3750 V

TRUE 120 with Gt 120 fan

Gskil 2Gb*4 i.e 8GB @ 1020 Mhz - 2.10 V--CL 5

Abit ip 35 pro ( only MCH value changed to 1.29 from 1.25 V)

6 Sata Hddz on ICH9R , 2 Sata Hddz on jmicron total of 8

MSI nvidia 8400 gs

2 * 56K PCI Modem,s

2 * IDE DVD Burners on jmicron

Elite 330 with 3 GT Fans + Cooler master 4 in 3 accessory ( total of 5 fans including one of heatsink nd other of CM device bay accessory )

fan ) all fans @ full rpm ( smart fan function disabled )

POV 500 W PSU

UTStarcom ADSL Modem

G11 Keyboard + Desi Mouse

LG 17" Normal CRT

Processor load is 40 % ~ in workouts

Primary use of pc for Desktop, Server Virtualization using

VMware Server nd Parallels Virtuozzo Containers

Go with the APC 650. Should not cost you more than Rs. 3200. Comes with the APC PowerChute software too. It should also give you about 15 mins of backup.....even more should you think of moving towards an LCD.

go for the apc 650 VA inverter...
OT: what the hell do you do with 8gigs of ram along with an E2160 :?
wht i do , i had already mentioned in the first post itself:cool2: G

I cant answer ur questions but i can say Microtek 800VA is great VFM, will give you 30 Mins backup with 8400GS and OCed E2160.

i have the owned both microtek 800VA and APC 500VA... lemme tell ya in common usage you will not feel much difference as both of them easily give about 10-15min backup easily on my rig.... but yes APC is better as everyone will tell you

u have a nice loaded system thr..
figures based on assumption:
CPU - 65 watts
HDD - 8 x 10 = 80 watts
CRT -100-125 watts
.
.
.
.

i thnk u must be consuming about 400 watts..Also considering the psu to be a 80% efficiency onw.. ur system would consume about 450- 500 watts(on higher side)

Will be adviseable to go for atleast 800VA UPS.. and within ur range microtek shoud do the job.costs about 2.6k.. or even a 1000VA would be in ur budget.

PS: as someone pointed out any UPS will make a buzzing sound when connected to a active pfc psu.barely audible though.

So , guys final words , which shud i opt for as recommeded
Microtek 800 VA , Microtek 1000 VA , APC 650

One more thing , is POV 500 W psu active pfc or passive pfc compliant ,
nd will the microtek / apc ups cause problems with Active nd Passive pfc psu,s

Thanks a Lot for Support
:ohyeah:

Here is my config:
E2180@3ghz
2x1GBB TRANSCEND @1000MHZ
corsair VX450.
ZEBRONICS BIJLI.
15 INCH crt monitor.
g5 laser mouse.
gigabyte 6600gt.
120mm cooler master fan.

I had the same headache 'cause i have a active pfc PSU.everyone recommended SMART series ups frm apc(very expensive).but i had an old 600va square wave ups powering my pc then(no buzzing no other sound).
As i couldnt afford the smart series i opted for the BACKUP series frm APC
BR1000 which has simulated sine wave(SMART SERIES HAVE PURE SINE WAVE) which set me back by RS7000.The moment powercut happens and the ups switches to battery mode i hear this buzzing noise frm vx450.
Surprisingly i didnt have this problem when i connected my no name ups.
So i poked around the net posted on corsair forums only to find this is a common problem when a vx450 is connected to a simulated sine wave ups
No harm would result to either to the psu or to the pc.But i can assure u i am frustrated that this happens after spending rs 7000 .

What should u do?
I can assure u would not hear this buzzing noise with MICROTEK 800va backup ups.so as for as vx450 is concerned any square wave ups that can handle ur pc (make sure it wont overload ur ups) would be fine. u would not go through the buzzing episode and the problem associated with it.

Can u post ur config? are u having any issues other than the buzzing noise like random shutdowns etc.thanks

Thnx Guys , i had called Amritsar retailers nd got bullshit pricing for the ups :@
APC 650 - 3500 ~
Microtek 800va - 3000 ~

although mostly i wud be opting for Microtek 800 va ( budget  concerns )

also guys tell whether Point of View 500 W Psu is Passive PFC or Active PFC compliant
