Audiophile: the firewire model is $140..

The USB option is $125

Hey Chaos, I suppose a simple high quality external DAC would have been better for a stereo setup like yours as opposed to the behemoth Platinum...That Plat is geared toward the 5.1/Digitally processed sound crowd and not for an analog setup like yours...
 
Superczar can u pass me the link as to where you are looking at these external soundcards.....i dont think M Audio makes them anymore
 
Whoa, whatever gave you that impression...Just search for "M-Audio audiophile usb" "M-Audio audiophile firewire "or "M-Audio transit"

Hehe the platinum is there just for gaming with headphones ;). I'm getting a 0404 (already bought, sitting in seattle :P) for music :).
 
czar, the USB AP has a better DAC compared to the transit.

Here's the spec sheet of the AP DAC - it's the AK4528

^ oh I used to know almost DACs and ADCs of almost all soundcards by heart a while back, when i used to be into Hi-fi and stuff. I am not in touch with that stuff nowadays.
 
Hey, it seems the Transit uses the 4584 after all...here is a board pic i found on the head-fi forums

A TI TAS1020A for the USB audio interface...

AK4584 (Ultra low noise 24-Bit 96kHz CODEC ) for the DAC

LMV722 ( Low Noise, Low Voltage OpAmp)
 
Sorry for OT: Chaos, will you be using 2 soundcards ?? Is it even possible ?? Twisted logic tells me it should be possible.
 
Its possible to have both the X-Fi and EMU in the same system... but with different hardware profiles. They can't exist together.
 
@ nikhil its possible to have to soundcards working on a system. if you have an application like fruity loops you can choose one part of the sound processing to choose one card and the other the next one. (2 decks one soundcard for each)
