Lemme tell you of the 3 yrs I gave CAT.. got the highest percentile when I dint take it seriously. the whole purpose of CAT is that to negate preparations..

Thats not saying u shouldnt prepare rigoursly, just that in the end it all boils to those 2 hours and what your mental state is...
exactly, my %ile was the highest when I gave my first mock around 2 months back, coz at that time I hadn't prepared at all!!
now, when I know a bit about the sections, my %ile is going down..
that's why I have stopped preparing for it now:ashamed:

giving your cat to whom ? :S
 won't tell u!:ohyeah:

Me at:
IES NEW ENGLISH SCHOOL
NR. KHERWADI POLICE STN.
BANDRA (EAST)
MUMBAI 400 051.

Thanks to all those who have done nothing to prepare themselves for CAT I no longer feel guilty or depressed for having screwed the very little time I had.

Hmm. I wouldn't agree that preparation degrades performance, that would happen only if your preparation is bogging you down and not letting your mind think free.

CAT is all about adapting to the situation but your fundamentals of math, logic and language need to be spot on - something that only preparation can give you.

Anyway>>> ALL THE BEST to TE-ites!

seriously, I've noticed the exact same thing, the more i prepare, the lesser percentiles i get , Didnt prepare for a month, got 97.4

didnt prepare for a year, got 98.9.

didnt prepare for two years...... well, lets see :P

but i think there is some truth to it after all

to quote Morpheus

You have to let it all go, Neo. Fear, doubt, and disbelief. Free your mind.

I have a similar experience -
kind of prepared for some months, got percentile in 80s
and when I dint prepare at all (literally) I got it in 90's, just did what i could and left what I couldn't. But of course, for english some prep is very necessary. And again knowing things is great, but most important - is how you put them in action in the 2hrs, but again I truly dont like how its done, it probably couldn't be any better, the fact that they judge you in merely 2 hrs, with millions of candidates doesn't cut it for me. Who cares anyway.

All the best to all of who are taking cat this year, may this open better doors for you!

^Thats true for any entrance, be it JEE or CAT.

Best of luck to all TEites giving CAT. Telling this from personal exp with JEE n AIEEE.

I just came back from a mini-holiday :D

No preparation at all. I havent touched my CAT books for 11 months now (last time was XAT 2008 in Jan of this year :P).

I will concentrate only on the English part of the paper and come back. Havent slept properly too, so I might be able to catch up on some sleep in the hall.

I didnt even know where I had kept my hall ticket. I just found it :P
