hmm.. thanks for your opinions. I had a pretty bad experience with dell. Problem is , since these buggers have no physical location you can actually go to, they can and do act pricey on the phone and refuse to register your complaints. And they give you petty solutions which even a school kid would know don't work. Bottom line for me is - The concept of "customer care in India is a myth."

1+

Very True Customer Support In India Is Myth. We Should Have System Like In Other Countries Where We Can Sue The Companies For Millions.

- HP has gone way down in terms of after sales service..
- Dell will always be #1 in their service department , even the laptops are more than just good.
- Vaio sucks because of 0 vfm.
- Samsung sucks too because of POOR after sales service.
I hope that sums it up.

I needed to upgrade my macbook's hdd so I walked into the nearest apple showroom. I wasn't able to get one screw off so the guy helped with just that. Otherwise he said there was a charge to replace the whole thing. Very friendly.

Another time I had to get a stuck DVD out of the slot drive and he did it for me for free (it is under warranty). My only two experiences with Apple's service.

I am not saying Apple has the best service. Lol...there is no 'best' for anything these days. But I sure like the idea of just walking into a store and having small things fixed without having to hold the line for hours or talk to some bored tech support chap (which I have had to do with dell for even the silliest request).

Dell has had some good customer support for the laptops. Talking of an instance here, one of my friend dropped his inspiron laptop from the bed and the the hard drive conked out! Called up Dell CS and they promptly sent a service engineer to the site who managed to identify the problem and replaced the hard drive in about 2 days time. This was in Coimbatore, TN btw. About a couple of months back.
