Isn't the whole 7200.11 series failed for Seagate 1TB ones??
Ideally you should be looking to avoid going to the service centre in the first place. Get an HDD which has the least failure rate and if both the brands look similar to you, then go for WD as you find their ASS to be better.MAGNeT said:So suppose one is to buy say 1 tb or 1.5tb or 2tb.
Which drive one should prefer.
Ill still mostly go for Wd because of onsite and seagate ASS centre is somewhere around saki naka in mumbai which has th worst traffic point .
The fact that you've got 3 drives RMAed indicates a high probability of failure. It took them 40 days to replace a faulty WD Elements SE 1 TB and I was without a portable storage for so long.Dushie said:I would disagree with the same, alot will depend where you stay and how far is the collection center from your place. I have RMA 3 drives in the last 9 months and have not faced a single issue infact i got new drives as replacement and the service was pretty fast just took around a week to 10 days.
The problem here is not just the RMA process delays. In first place it is the failure rate that one should be worried about. Just think about the data loss and downtime. Luckily I had all my 30GB of photos in another drive.CA50 said:^^but my RMA barely took 10 days, so can't say that their RMA is slow.
Western Digital even charges a premium for the Black edition drives while performance gains against the Seagate lineup against them is a meager ~5% overall, making the Seagate drive a much better option.rite said:IMO if you can buy Western Digital 2 TB Black 64mb cache, then it would be better than Seagate because one it is faster, two, seagate is more expensive.
But 7200.12 has a comparable speed to 1 TB Black and costs just 2/3rd as much.
Don't you think its the MNC's (WD in this case) prerogative to provide for a dedicated courier service if they are promising Door-to-Door service to its customers.CA50 said:^^but my RMA barely took 10 days, so can't say that their RMA is slow. I think the courier make the delay in piking up the HDD thats adds to their bad ASS :|
