Market Feedback Why delete prices on items sold?

I am all for opening up Information.

@Desecrator - The problem you ve mentioned can be referred to as thread crapping or low-balling which you get in most clear sale threads anyways. If the seller is bothered by someone haggling over a price figure from a closed deal thread, he is free to ignore the person and may be even report him to mods. The advantage of not deleting the prices is open not only to imminent sellers but also to prospective buyers. Yes you will get nut cases (who will comapre prices and haggle), but here its a question of the larger good.

@DarkAngel - Although its a wonderful source of information to those who want to sell, not everybody gets a reply for their queries in "How much i can sell this for?" thread. Not pointing out anything here, but the extra info (previously closed deal prices) wouldnt hurt.

As individual sales go through PM route ,how one will know that what was the final price?
Second, personal deal's can not be taken as reference point, suppose someone sold some item for Rs.9000 and now I am selling same item at 10,000 because my product may be in better condition and may be first seller was in need of money so settled for what he got.
I usually take current market price and other similar deals(in present) to take my reference buying price.

I would like to add that researching prices for second hand products is really hard on the internet, in many cases. The TE Market is a pretty good database for that and it is a pity that a lot of data isn't available.

If the reason to blank out the asked for prices is to protect sellers from lowballers then its a loosing battle. Low ballers hardly require a reason to low ball and they can pull up almost any unreliable source as 'proof' that the price is high.

Of course ultimately it should be left to the seller to decide but IMO it would be better to let the asking price be. Lowballers will always find excuses but sellers would appreciate finding approximate prices to sell their items if the asking price was left intact in closed FS threads.

No one prevents you from selling for a higher price, just because a previous deal was done at a lower rate. You can just reject buyers if you dont like the offer. I actually want to sell some items and not able to find a good price reference. I dont want to inadvertently price my products lower than what it could have sold for. There is benefit for a seller too. Why are people afraid of market transparency?

Why take extra effort to hide it? Maybe I should start replying to every Market thread with a quote of OP, so that the prices remain visible :P

Wasn't even aware that something like this was going on :P Seems pointless IMO

Looking at previous threads for a reference price does make sense for sellers

Yeah, especially since the prices are publicly available till the actual sale happens. If some piece of information is public, why suddenly take steps to hide it? What is the issue in continuing to keep such information publicly available? :S
