I had an iBall headphones set from sunny27, had used it for small VoIP chatting. IMO, they serve differant purposes. IEMs are very good for music, IMO. HPs, well they tend to do a lot of other things OKish, and IMO, more durable.
IEMs are portable while headphones are not, you can take but can you argue with iem? It's small and easier. For sound definitely you should go for headphone, so for movies, games, laptop, desktop IEM would be sillier choice no matter how great they sound. So my logic mini portables + tabs = iem, big portables like laptop/net book/pc = Hp
I used headphone for couple of years, for voice chatting, music and movies.. though all were very basic level, and i am using IEMs for mobile phone, I found HPs are more comfortable. about durability, my M2p is more durable than those headphones.. in long run, the cord got damaged in all my HPs. I had a portable (w/o band) HP of iBall, that lasted over a year
Comparing just the SQ, on the first listening, IEM sure would sound impressing, mainly because we benchmark using music, and the isolation it provides gives the sense of better SQ. But in long run or other uses like gaming, movies IEMs are horrible.
I use my SHP 8900 recabled for movies and AT AD-700 for movies and games as well as music on PC, while use my IEMs with my clip+ and fuze only.
I meant the wire of headphones are thicker wire so they don't easily get stretched, sometimes when there is a loose connection, headphones are easier to repair(at home).
Oh and the iball or techcom (or whatever indian brands) thier wire are pathetic in my experience, i had to change them about every 2 months maybe. sometimes after a year or 2, you can break wire with your fingers just like a toothpick.
When i say good wire i mean my sennhieser hd485 cable or JVC rx900 cable, compared to them M2, tf10, JVC marshmellow( giving me some wire problem as we speek) wires are weak/less durable imo.
