Graphic Cards why graphic card prices are high in india??

The main reason is the DEMAND
Not many people go for high end GFX cards in India
So, the prices of CPU's, Motherboard and other PC components are only a bit pricier, but the High end GFX cards are very costly

Unless, there is good demand and market available for high end GFX card, this would continue (hope it changes soon)

F.Y.I. the customs duty in India for computer hardware is 21.653%
(again, for some components like storage devices it is 17%)

Also, if you import into Mumbai, then an additional 5.5% octroi
Oh yeah don't forget our dear Service Tax and Education Cess @ 12.25 % on the duty and octroi. Then comes the famous VAT @ 4%

There is no service tax @ 12.25 percentum on sale goods man!! on sale goods there is only VAT at the time of sale.

yes, you are right...when you sell the good within India there is only VAT and no service tax. The service tax is on the rate of import duty.

In most cases its the importer (in other words the indian distributor) who demands a huge premium for importing such small quantities. Its the distributor who's markup is high. Its usually not the dealer/retailer who has high markups.

if everyone in india started using mobo where there is no onboard VGA then definately the demand for GPU will increase and the customs will start charging less for it as if it was a normal computer
like vandal said GPU are considered as luxury items rather than a normal component
