CPU/Mobo Why HT set to 1.6 to unlock cores?

My friend has got pII 550BE and Biostar 785GE 128M board and successfully unlocked it to quad core. He needs to set HT it to 1.6GHZ. Is this specific to some mobos(or cpus) or HT should be set to 1.6 irrespective of the mobo/cpu?
 
Mine unlocks without any fumbling to HT speed.

Perhaps dependent on which batch of proccy you got.
 
HT depends on upon the stability

Normally its Auto but if your system isn't stable after the unlock to Quad then you might have to change HT Link
 
^^^ Which batch p2 550 do you have? You didn't need to change ht?
@bluefox : could you tell me which mobo and batch no of your processor. That might indicate something :)

My friend has got 0922APMW and the latest bios from biostar's website.
 
u can set the HT back to 2GHz (10x multiplier) from within windows using AMD Overdrive.

even i have to set HT = 1.6GHz

with 0922APMW and 790GXBE

Yes, I tried to do that, but (in windows 7 )AOD doesn't seem to restore settings at next boot. :(. Any fix for that?
With X4, pc doesn't boot unless you set ht to 1.6 for him.
 
Guys one question i dont want to start another thread for this. Does Biostar ta790GX 128M comes with the paddle card with the box.
 
I have got acces to Gigabyte 790XT-UD4P and I was able to unlock 550BE without setting ht to 1.6. Actually I could overclock it to 2.4 and was stable.
I believe then the issue is with either the mobo or the bios I am using with TA785GE.
Your experiences or suggestions ?
