@op there's cisco USB adapter and TP link , mod of them will work. Go for n-network adapter if you have n enabled router.

At 3rd and later posters, google for Virtual router or Connectify. They will make wifi hotspur on your laptop, desktop. One other thing I that your wifi adapter has to support win 7 hotspot feature. And yes, you need to have win7 OS to start a virtual wifi hotspot.
 
I am using this from past 2years. it is rock solid & stable. Further, i will advice for PCI-E based card instead of USB which you plan to use it 24/7. USB can give problems sometimes.
 
get a usb wifi adapter.. only then you will be able to create a wifi hotspot.. the reason laptops are commonly known to have the capability for this is all the laptops have a wifi adapter inbuilt..

answered my question really !!! i use a photon too and was wondering how to create a wifi hot spot .. i came across this thread and a guy has managed to use an app alled connectify to make a wifi hot spot on his pc using a photon..i tried the same but it says no wifi device detected even though i have a wifi enabled phone next to it...now i dont know is it asking for a wifi adapter or just a wifi device like a phone....please read it and tell me what you understand out of it

can you suggest a wifi adapet which supports hot spot feature
 
here is a good list of usb wireless adapters for you.. your router is an n300.. all the routers below support 802.11n standard

1. asus usb-n10

2. tp-link wn722n/721n/727n

3. dlink dwa-125

4. netgear wna1100

all the above are n150.. if the router is used primarily for internet purposes then it will easily suffice however for transfer between computers and other devices in the house you will be better off with an n300. for that you need to increase your budget.. the cheaper and good n300 usb adapters are below

1. tp-link wn821n - 1.1k

2. netgear wna3100 - 1.2k

3. asus usb-n13 - 1.4k

4. dlink dwa-135 - 1.3k

How is the range ?

Desktop PC and Router distance....around 25 meters
 
PCIe is much faster than USB 2.0 since 32 lane PCIe has a bandwidth of 16 GB/sec whereas USB 2.0 has a best case speed of 480Mbps

BTW @sandeepsachin almost all desktop boards don't have inbuilt wifi as they are not meant to be portable

@baja151 what mobo do you ave ?

IF you have one PCIe slot then you might ave to forego a GPU in the long run to use PCIe card.

If you already have a GPU then USB is the way to go.

If you are planning to use internet only on the desktop and not file transfers or shared drive access then you should be okay with USB adapter.

Go with Asus USB-N13.Has a 300 Mbps speed
 
first of all, to share you internet connection, we do not need any third party software.. it just maybe that the third party software will provide a brainless way to do what is already really simple.. .internet connection sharing can be enable from within windows itself.. for that, first of a wireless network needs to be broadcast from the pc which has the internet connection... ie. create an AdHoc network from the pc with the internet connection.. .and then, in the internet connection sharing menu, check the box that says Allow users to use this computers internet connection.. once this is done, when another computers will connect wirelessly to the adhoc network, they will automatically detect the internet gateway.. even if they dont, the IP of the serving computer can be given as the gateway Ip and dns server address. .

this is how i had shared my broadband connection for a whole year before i could convince my father to buy a wireless router.. (broadband service providers did not provide wireless routers at that time... those idiots even went to the extent of telling me, such sharing is not allowed. .we will disconnect your connection . i told them F*** Off.. .. the reality is, broadband service providers do not have any say on how many computers you are sharing the connection as long as its a home connection and they specifically have separate plans for home and corporate users..... that is because, we pay for the bandwidth.. and not for the number of computers on which we can divide that bandwidth.. )

I am using MSI 890GXM G65 having 2 pci e slots.

OneI slot is in use..other is free and not planning to add other gpu for crossfire.
