Hi guys/gals,

I plan on upgrading my computer very soon, and build a medium range gaming PC...

I've been going through some of the threads around the forums, and I remember reading somewhere that for computers with a PSU greater than 500W a UPS with a higher rating is required. Sadly, I purchased a Numeric 600VA UPS just a couple of months ago and am ignorant of this fact...

Now my question is, if I get a new PC with a PSU of more than 500 W, then will my UPS be of any use? Even 1-2 minutes of standby so that I can shutdown my computer? Or is it going to be just a stabilizer? Can I add an extra battery externally to make it work?

Rgds,
Prav.

It doesn't matter how highly rated PSU it is, PSU won't draw that much power unless required. It is the components you're gonna run that will determine the power consumption of your rig. I guess 600VA will provide upto 300W-350W of power easily which should be sufficient to power most rigs today. You should get at least a couple of mins to shut down the computer.

Post the config you're planning to buy and then we can determine how much power approximately it will consume and whether the UPS will support it.
