@dragon hunter i do want to play high end games

i will upgrade my system one at a time as i cant afford all at once. the reason i bought i3 because it has integrated graphics so i can survive til i can upgrade my pc. now i want to upgrade my graphics card and i dont have any first hand experience wit graphic cards. i saw 6870 around my budget so only asked if it is enough for another i and half year in games for that resolution.

thanks to all for their suggestions :)

@rite

Yeah. He should buy the best card . Why don't you suggest him a 580 SLI and give him the money to buy it as well.

@hash plz read my posts first ...i never suggested a 6870 for him...

read first and then post...

Wasn't complaining about you. Just irritated you called me a fanboy .

@Shankar

Since you told you might upgrade monitor later on and with the budget you have. You should try a 5770 along with Corsair CX400 PSU .

k...np..

but remember one thing price of 6870 is 14.5k

and u said ur budget 12k max

and see if u r planning on upgrading ur system soon ..i mean specially monitor and processor

then go for the best card you can find ...whether 1st hand or 2nd hand...( if its under warranty ) it doesnt matter.....

5670 giving 45fps at full graphics....only can be said by a fanboy...

Oh god. Look at that review again for God's sake. It was giving out 49 FPS on Anandtech sacrificing some detail. And I never said it was giving out 45 FPS @ Full graphics sh!thead.

I agree with the point rite is making to play games with every damn thing turned on and in its full glory get a 460 1gb (not 6870 shee ati crap :P). Sure it will be over kill for some games but since he has the budget why not ? He will be able to enjoy every game at full settings which makes the investment worth it. DX11 games coming out through 2011 will be heavy and even now there are plenty of games other than crysis and metro like mafia 2 , new battlefield, new cod, and im sure there are more that will make good use of a powerful card and playing games with full IQ eye candy is nice.

My personal suggestion is 460 1gb because of nvidias better driver history and in some games physx is pretty sweet so its a nice option to have. Another reason is later (if you have the PSU&cpu to do it) you can sli the 460.

6870/460 both have plenty of power to run games at your rez with all the sliders pushed to max, get a good smps (VX550 Corsair) with these cards and enjoy gaming.

+1 to that.

Go for nVidia GTX460

If you can wait till Jan then by that time nVidia is planning to launch GTX 560.

@OP, with your current PSU, I dont think you should look at anything more than 5770 now. Anything more than that will need a better PSU. I guess everyone can agree on this one. So, OP, will the PSU come within the 12K budget you have mentioned or do you have extra cash for that?

If you have extra cash for PSU and you are anyway going to upgrade your CPU and monitor later, then I would suggest the best you can get within your budget. Right now I guess it is GTX460 from Nvidia or 6850 from ATI. I would pick nVidia though.

with a 5770, you should be able to play most games at that res at highest settings. Some games like metro, you may have to reduce the settings a bit, but should not a big deal. I play almost all games at high settings at 1280x1024 with just a 4850, a 5770 is faster, so you should do good.

Not to scare you, but to give you an idea about future games ( at least some of them).

I can play Split Second at 1920x1080 High 4x AA on a 5850 + Core i7. However, at V High the game crawls, even without AA and irrespective of the rez, even at 1440x900 for that matter.

High is butter smooth, 60 FPS constant at full HD 4x AA.

Simiarlarly, both Crysis and GTA IV take a huge hit in going from High to maximum (even excluding AA).

buy a radeon 5770 1 gb card , it is good enough for now and for 2011 games at decent settings at the that resolution. :)
