Hey fellas

Well I'll be shifting to Bangalore in about a months time and need some advice on the following stuff. Would appreciate if people who have shifted from Northern India can chip in.

Rent : some idea as to how much a flat with : 1 BK, 1BHK, 2BHK would cost me monthly. I have also heard that in bangy these guys ask for 10 months advance as security deposit, is that so?

How big is bangy? : Reason I ask is I'll probably be staying with some of my friends who are in Accenture which is : Outer Ring Road, Bangalore-37 and I am going to Iflex which is either gonna be MahadevPura or Whitefield, so like are these 2 nearby and if not whats the distance b/w them.

Also giving an example, delhi end to end would be around a 40KM road (i.e. say Outer ring road Rohini to Gurgaon/Noida) whats the bangy end to end distance.

Internet : Correct me if I am wrong but BSNL is available there right? are they providing new connections, Was thinking of getting the NU 500 plan. But in the meantime a 256UL from Tata/Airtel will do just fine. So suggest some areas where Internet connection from these ISP's is available. And no MetroNet on TATA, want a router based connection.

PC BUYING : No idea where to get PC peripherals from over there, how far is Ritchie street from Whitefield? Which shops to buy from etc etc (Like in Delhi we always have NehruPlace and SMC and CE. Am hoping some TE members will help me out with this stuff.

Whats the traffic like there? : Was thinking of getting my car transported there, is it worth it to do that there, cause I visited Mum once and the traffic there is only meant for bikes.

FOOD : Since am from North India, would prefer to eat as such, so some apartment/flat locales with that in mind will be appreciated :)

Any other advice you guys would like to give me regarding this :bleh:

TIA

Deepak

Traffic is sad !! I think it's even worse than Delhi.

You will be better off with a bike coz you can spend less time in traffic. A car obviously takes more time to transport you from one place to another.

But on the other hand, going out late at night on a bike is definite NO-NO !! I still wouldnt want you to be robbed :P

If possible, get a car AND bike. Use the bike for getting to work and all. Car if you have to go out later in the night.... (assuming your work timings are decent)

bangalore is hell (traffic, pollution).

Software engineers (recognizable by the tags they wear around their neck) are ambushed and murdered nowadays for cash, jewelry, etc (this is what i heard).

rents depend on the place. Donno about the rates in the outer ring road though.

ISP depends on area. Pray that BSNL has enough capacity to give u connection.

Food, I am sure u can get northie food from somewhere since bangy is a cosmopolitan city.

For pc buying, go to SP Road. Really good prices.

I am sure the people from blr in this forum can help u more.

And Ritchie Street is abt 7 hrs from Bangalore.....

Since Ritchie Street is in Chennai

^^^ WOW, didnot know that...

Well since I dont have a bike and wont be able to get one for some time, I guess I'll make do with the city Public Transport System + Autos (hope the service is good, any Metros in Bangy :P)

@Bisobhai, u r scaring me man :P, is crime really so high there?

SP Road, suggest some good shops....

Most important info I need is whether its gonna be manageable with my Accy buddies, cause they will want some area nearby their office and me nearby mine, so how much is the distance b/w the two, and how much does it usually take to go from 1 end to blore to the other on say a bike.

And approx rental rates for flats will help, obviously looking for a secure area which is as cheap as possible even if its farther away from the office. It should ofcourse have good ISP's there, just don't wanna get a flat in some area and then find out that neither BSNL nor Airtel nor TATA have services there.

Rent : i had a 2bhk for 9k/month at BTM layout

How big is bangy? : hmm...the accenture office ? which one? none of them are near whitefield. but company transport usually covers all the city so should not be much of a problem if you are willing to kill time in traffic.

btm layout(south end) to north end would take about 1.5 hours

PC BUYING : sp road near town hall

Whats the traffic like there? : bad

FOOD : you will find a cheap fresh juice stall and a udupi restaurant on every street

Any other advice you guys would like to give me regarding this :bleh:

buy a map of the city from any big bus stop and learn your way around

Food isnt bad....you just need to go the places which give good food.... Any city has good and bad food.... After a bit of trial and error, you can decide for yourself.

^^ So BTM Layout is nearer to Whitefield and Mahadevpura (can be relocated at anytime to any of these, so need something at their junction)

Its Bang4 (I got an offer too :D)

How far is Town Hall / SP Road from BTM End (assuming its near Whitefield)??

Did you have an Internet connection there?

EDIT :

A guy from orkut had mentioned this in someone's query for accomodation.

u ll get d locatn eithr in airport road or whitefield... bettr stay near MARATHALLI.. cheaper nd covrs both whitefield nd airport road..

is mahadevpura at airport road, cause the offer letter I got stated Iflex address as Mahadevpura something, thats where the IFlex park is right.

Bangalore rocks in everyway but the traffic...

I am sure you'll have a good time there...

Trafficwise, Delhi is easily the best city in India, so for you , it'll be even worse when you try to adjust from the roads in Delhi to the ones in Bangalore

public transport? get ready to sweat. But there are those air conditioned volvo public transport buses, which rock, but cost 25 rs for a ride.

cant comment more on crime. read the newspapers :)

company bus is a good option.

try getting a house / flat in a gated community. They will have 24/7 security and u wont have to worry at all.

A bunch of 8 guys i know live in a 3 bhk in koramangala very near FORUM. Rent is 22k and advance was 2 lakhs. :P

Some single rooms are available near white field .You can try ur luck there.
BTM is far off from white field Abt 1.5 hrs or so.

@ S.P Road ,near majestic (Abt 30 min-45min from BTM)
Go to a couple of shops .Buy from the guy who gives u the best quote:P .BTW, Golcha traders and Ankit computers are reliable.

@ food
Depends on the area u live in.BTM has got some good food joints for northies.(Mirch masala ,danna panni, some paratha shops).

@ internet connection
Again depends on the area which ur going to stay.Tata indicom is available (512 kbps UL) and is quite good. Airtel ,sify ,BSNL are some of the other providers .BSNL has stopped giving new connections .Altough there was news that they may start again.

Did you have an Internet connection there?

  .This is one of the dumbest question I have been asked abt bengaluru. You cant except the IT hub of India not to have an internet connection. :bleh:

BTM is not exactly close to whitefield.. You have to Pass Koramangala to get to the outer ring road and comes then whitefield (fastest way) from BTM. Im not sure where exactly Mahadevpura is, but if you say its near airport road then ring road is nearby (not the same ring road which is next to BTM, though it eventually leads there :P) . Accenture has a big office on Bannerghetta road which is close to ring road passing through BTM...

Am lil lazy to type long posts so add me on msn if you have any questions :)

So BTM Layout is nearer to Whitefield and Mahadevpura (can be relocated at anytime to any of these, so need something at their junction)

btm is about 30 mins south from marathalli, and whitefield is about 40 mins north from marathalli , so stay at airport road/domlur/marathalli if you are goin to work in that area

How far is Town Hall / SP Road from BTM End (assuming its near Whitefield)??

about halfhour if you know what bus to take or auto

Did you have an Internet connection there?

didnt take one

BTM is no where near whitefield..:) , i stay in BTM.
its' ~20 mins to go to sp road from my place on a bike. . . add 2x for auto, etc.
From whitefield it'll be a pretty long ride..~1.10 i think.

From whitefield to btm it takes ~50 mins alone considering traffic . . . :@

BTM Layout -Tata indicom , Sify,BSNL.

Airtel is available only in some areas

DOMLUR ,AIRPORT ROAD-Airtel ,Sify
